I'm posting here to get some advice.

Over the weekend, I got four full requests. One of the agents read it in a day and, though she hasn't offered representation yet, I have a strong suspicion she will, due to something she posted on her blog today.

I also have a couple of partials out, too.

I just want to check on the protocol for this sort of thing. If she offers, I should ask for a week or so to let the other agents look at the work, right? And shouldn't I almost ask for a little longer than that, given that it's BEA this week? Do I ask her all the things I want to know right away (what made her like it so much, what revisions does she have in mind, does she have anyone in her mind that would love the book)? Or do I wait if anyone else wants to offer and then have conversations with them all, back-to-back? And then make a decision? (Gosh, that sounds presumptuous of me. But it's an honest question.)

YOu might get a better response posting this on another forum here. Roundtable maybe?

Thanks. I wonder if a mod would be willing to move it?

I put it here because there's a little bit of SQUEEEEEEEEEE going on, as well.

Check out the agents forum here. I think there is a thread here about the protocol. And best of luck :)

I did some digging there and found nothing Mmmm But I know someone asked this like last week...

Okay, I'll check that out.

Thanks! I'm so excited, but at the same time, I feel like it's the night of the play and I've got stage fright!

Thank you! The advice thing was really secondary; my post just came out backwards. I do want to revel in this moment, though!

Yes, ask for at least a week because of BEA, maybe a few days more.

Then email all the other agents with fulls/partials (and if you want, queries, though that seems more optional than expected). Put OFFER OF REPRESENTATION in the subject line, and ask them in the body to let you know by a specified date if they are still considering the manuscript.

I think if the agent calls to offer, you can ask questions and discuss away - I did. Then you can have any followup calls or emails necessary after you fear from the other agents.

And good luck.

JWheeler, I would probably recommend popping some Crystal, quitting the day job, and acquiring a taste for cocaine and $1000 hookers.

Well, maybe that's a little premature. But good luck anyway this week!

Renee!! Squee! Thank you!

And I appreciate the good luck, V-Man and regdog.

I'm starting to get nervous, but I made a list of questions to ask. I'll update after the call.

Yay, Jill! Rep me who???? I'm so excited for you.

I asked my questions as the offers came in, rather than waiting and having conversations back-to-back. I suppose you could ask for a week and a bit because of BEA (I know the agents who offered rep to me were all willing to give me time to think about it) :)
