I got asked an interesting question by my 11 yo niece the other day and figured I'd see what other people would say as well:

If you could be incarnated as one of your own characters--would you do it? Which character would you choose?

My niece said for good. I'm willing to be flexible for sake of discussion.

I wouldn't swap if it was permanent. If it was for 24 hours, I'd say HELL YEAH.

I'd bodyswap with Piper in a heartbeat.

To find out why, buy Long Time Coming when it's published.

*tries to think of a character that doesn't meet a tragic demise or perpetual undeath*

Hmm. My characters don't have any better chance at a happily ever after than I do, so I might as well stay in my own skin.

Now, if you're talking jump into one of them for 24 hours at will, in that case, yes. All of them! Even the bad ones.

Especially the bad ones. :evil

Yeah, if it were 24 hours, and I wouldn't be actually missing a day of my own life.

But if I went and became Chase for 24 hours and lost those 24 hours of my real life, I wouldn't do it.

And I wouldn't even consider it if it were permanent. I like my character a lot. Sometimes I love her. But I'd never give up my own life. :)

No way. I have a very happy life, but I put my characters through hell. I wouldn't change places with them for even 24 hours.

I have a tendency to torture my MC's, so I'd have to say no.

ETA: Yeah, what delores haze said.

My recurring MC is way too much like me, but he gets to do funner stuff. Although the bad stuff that happens to him is worse than what happens to me, so I'm not sure.

Yeah, Chase has had an awful life. But it'd be interesting to live inside her head for a day, when you know it's only going to be a day, ya know?

I'd definitely do it. Who would I be? I'd have to get back to you on that one.

I have one gaming character that I'd change places with, even if it were permanent.

But my novel characters? I don't think I could it on a forever basis. Probably wouldn't mind being them for a day, though. Any of them.

If I could pick the day, of course. ;)

My real life is way more interesting than the ones my characters have.

Oh, wait...is that why I never get anything published?

When I'm old and gray and on my deathbed, yeah I'd change places with either of my 19-year-old or 16-year-old protag!

If I got to pick the day, I would! My MC gets to kill obnoxious people. Other than the police and witch-burners chasing her later, that'd be pretty cool :D ;)

I would like to have my MC's dreams. They beat the hell out of the fruit salad subconscious stuff I've been having lately.

No. My characters all have too many flaws.

My characters are sane (mostly), so it's swings and roundabouts there :D

ETA: Aren't I good. I didn't go for the obvious below-the-belt comment about Rob and flaws. My good deed for the day. *pats Rob on head*

The day you go below the belt on me is the day

My word!

What rude thoughts you have. I was being completely innocent! And you reduce it to double entendres and smut!

*is shocked*

ETA: Once again didn't go for the cheap shot. *feels forehead* Maybe I'm sickening for something,
