Those who like Neil Diamond, and those who don't. My ex-wife loves him.
I was in the hate camp and then switched.
Hate...because as a child being stuck at my drunk uncle's place while he blared Diamond out of his boat loud enough to wake the entire lake in the middle of the night, I equated Diamond with boozy losers and smelly yachts.
Love...because as an adult I happened to be in a restuarant when the entire restaurant broke into spontaneous song...Sweet Caroline...and it was one of those Out-of-the-blue moments that stick with you. Magical...then I realized he had this kind of music that really catches you. Kind of insidious, but in a good way.
There is something obnoxiously arrogant about him...but something infectious about his music that makes me forgive it. It still conjures that drunken asshole screaming out lyrics into the night, though...yech! That man's repulsive...but what are you going to do? family's family.
