View Full Version : Coolest City Names

This weekend my friend and I debated (demolished) someone's argument that Houston was a cooler city name than Brooklyn.

Brooklyn might be the coolest city name in the world (well, it's a "borough" I guess but screw it, it gets a pass). Possibly the known universe, and I dare say even the unknown universe. It's Brooklyn. It sounds cool and tough and all other manner of positive adjectives. On top of that, it's a part of New York, which runs a very, very close second.

Houston sounds like the last name of a football coach who still runs a wishbone offense. It's not even close.

What say you?

I say Akron is the coolest sounding city name. And Ohio is the coolest sounding state name. Brooklyn is cooler than Hoouston though.

Being a native, I say Brooklyn rules.

Oh dear God... that easily cracks the top 5. Outstanding...

Although natives who leave either city surely must endure the same jokes when they tell anyone where they're from.

"I'm from Cummings/Climax."
"Aren't we all?"

It's not a city, but I've always had a soft spot for Wanker's Corner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wankers_Corner,_Oregon)

Humptulips (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humptulips,_Washington) is pretty close though

And Wigtwizzle (http://www.peakdistrictview.com/?page=place&placeid=665). I would give up...ooh a night's beer to be able to say I was from Wigtwizzle

There's a small town in Austria called Fucking. And it now has a beer named after it. Beers in German-speaking countries are categorized as hell (light colored) and dunkel (dark colored). The new beer: Fucking Hell (http://open.salon.com/blog/lost_in_berlin/2010/03/30/europe_approves_controversial_new_beer_brand).

There's a Big Bone Lick State Park - I've got a photo of the sign. Same summer I found the "Ram in the Thicket" restaurant on Cape Cod.

If we weren't able to do that in other states, we'd have a population in regression.

We've also got a Paradise, Michigan. I guess you get to take your pick.

Vulcan, British Columbia. Yes, the town voted to change the name due to the large number of Trekkies living there. No word if Batman, Turkey has a large population of comics geeks.

BTW Fuck is a German surname, not very common but common enough. I remember our tour bus convulsed in uproarious laughter at the sight of a factory proudly bearing the name Joseph Fuck Industries. (yeah, yeah, the Fucks are among us and all that...)

Well, it does host one of the more well known Star Trek conventions in Canada.

There is also Romulan, Michigan.

I like some of Canada's city names:

Dildo, Newfoundland. Okay--that's cool.
Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia. Yep--cool.
Starbuck, Manitoba. Yep--same.
Stoner, B.C. Cool? ---the answer is in the question
Thunderchild, Saskatchewan. Go ahead---say Thunderchild three times fast. And again while snapping your fingers. Cool? Lord, yes.

How about:
Eureka
Toogood Arm
Witless Bay
Sober Island
MUSHABOOM - there's cool with a capital M
Malignant Cove? Oooh...if that tumor is malignant, than call me cancerfied, baby.
MEAT COVE. YEP- COOL
Proton Station - nerdy sci-fi cool!
Dropmore, Manitoba --- Come on...I hear that...and I wanna drop another hit, it's that cool!
Big Beaver, Saskatchewan. ---say no more!

I could go on, but I think I'll take a little side-trip to Skookumchuck, B.C., instead. Smoke it, daddy-O!

Man...Canada kicks ass.
