People are apparently dumb enough to do QA for free. There are plenty more who are dumb enough to pay for the privilege.

Or maybe dumb isn't quite the right word.

Hey, I'm glad I preordered Mount and Blade: Warband so that I could beta test it.

Its a fine fine game that deserves some work in return for being so awesome.

If that makes sense.

And did they ask for the full price again half a year later with the release of the box version? Because that's what EA is going to do. Not the same thing as letting people who preorder participate in the beta.

As I recall, with Mount & Blade you 'bought in' at whatever the current pay-to-test price was. So when the game was released, you got a full copy for free, having already paid.

One guy I know got in at $7. Another at $2. Madness.
