I have a kinda weird request.

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend me anything that fits these traits:

-Lesbian or bisexual female main character. (Can be one of several MCs.)

-Fantasy.

-NOT medieval or earlier.

-NOT hard science fiction. (Needs magic or supernatural elements.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Basically, I'm looking for:

Superhero, steampunk, future fantasy, modern fantasy, space opera fantasy, pulp fantasy, action horror, etc. I'll take traditional urban fantasy or paranormal romance, too.

Preferably, there's some romantic elements, but it doesn't have to be the focus.

Very flashy, over-the-top fantasy elements are preferable to really subtle stuff.
--------------------------------------------

Basically, I want to read fantasy novels with lesbian and bisexual female characters, but I'm sick and tired of purely low-tech stuff. I'm also tired of fantasy novels that shy away from the fantastic elements.

Hehe. I'm writing a novel like this right now, but it'd be great if I had some reading material in the meantime. :)

The Merlin character, Carel, in Elizabeth Bear's Prometheus books -- Blood & Iron, I'm thinking of in particular -- but the character recurs in all the books.

I'm not sure if the setting is "medieval or earlier" or not as I haven't read it, but Malinda Lo's YA novel Ash is a lesbian take on Cinderella.

It's kind of a renaissance-regency setting

I just saw that Lethe Press has released an anthology called "Heiresses of Russ 2011: The Year's Best Lesbian Speculative Fiction" with stories from Tanith Lee, Ellen Kushner, NK Jemisin (and a bunch of other people). I don't know if any of the stories have the setting that the OP was looking for, but with a lineup like that, this collection is pretty much guaranteed to be awesome. (I'm ordering a copy today.) Also, the cover art is quite lovely.

Second the Jane Fletcher recommendation. She's got two series, the Lyremouth Chronicles and the Celaeno series. She's with Bold Strokes Books.
