Thanks for everyone who submitted stories.
We will let you know the result by the end of April.

And sorry for the wrong gmail address.
My company e-mail had trouble receiving and sending mails,
so I had to make a new account at gmail.
And I wasn't so familiar with it.
Sorry about that.

This looks very interesting. I believe I can submit something you might be able to possibly use, but am wondering when you say Illustrated ideas needed is that just the ideas and not the actual illustrations themselves? I can't draw at all, unfortunately. Many thanks for posting.

JuneLee

Of course you don't need to draw at all.
You can just explain your illustration idea to us.
Thanks.

Hello!

I received an e-mail reply regarding this project, but unfortunately it went to bulk mail and got deleted before I could read it. I sent you an e-mail about it, but I just want to make sure you got it. If you could resend it, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks so much.

Hey June,What happens once we have submitted a story? Reece

This sounds great. I like the story ideas and also have quite a few sitting here for the open topic.
I sent an email so I hope I can send some stories.
What a great project for a grandmother who loves to make up stories.
Do you have a section for older children as well?
I write stories for ages 3-11.

Hi Reece,
Did you send an e-mail to me?
because I haven't received any from you.

When I get an e- mail, I always send replies about what we will do .
So, If you didn't get any e-amil from me.
Then your e mail probably didn't reach me.

Those who sent me an e-mail, but didn't hear back from me could also send their e-mails
to hjleeunibooks@google.com

We receive stories until April 15.
And we will let the writers know the result by the end of April.

Hi grandma,
We are planning for a project for older children.
It will probably start next year though.
We will let you know when it happens.

June Lee, I found out something when writing the story I submitted.
I talk a lot. Did manage to cut it down to the right size.
Thanks for the email you sent in answer to mine.
Look forward to the final answer.

Hi June:

I too would be interested in learning more and then submitting material. I sent emails to both addresses and didn't hear anything. The email I sent to the google account bounced back.

Do you by any chance mean hjleeunibooks@gmail.com, not hjleeunibooks@google.com? Could that be the problem with people's e-mails getting returned?

Yeah. I'd feel better to know that someone got an acceptance.

Otherwise, well, it makes me wonder a bit about the validity of the whole thing.

In their Linkedin listing they state they have 250 employees but only show three current - and June Lee is not one of them. It would be good if June could clarify how many submissions were accepted. It's difficult to find any info now that the original posting has been amended so there are no links to follow.

Mine was rejected too--and of course, I thought it was perfect for them! Did you all send the whole MS? I sent the first half.

Susie
05-01-2010, 03:56 AM
hey, kd. First I sent one story which she rejected, then she asked me to send another, just an outline and said if it was accepted I could write the whole story. It was rejected, so that was it. Sorry yours was a no-go.

bladestalker

could be.

the submissions were all pretty short and could not have all been that bad. heck the samples I got from June were along the lines of Dick, Jane and Spot.

grandma
05-08-2010, 05:16 PM
mine was supposed to be short. younger even than dick and jane see spot run.
75 words only.
think I will try for only longer stories.
grandma experience with life makes me wonder why we are all such bad writers.

I got accepted....

Sort of...

I got this from June:

"We liked your story and we are considering it for a possible candidate for the project. But it takes a lot of time for us to plan and publish the book, so we would like to keep your story for now. We canít promise you anytng, but we may use your story for current or future projects.

Since we donít pay you now, there wonít be any legal binding before we promise you to publish it. So if you need your story for other purposes, please go ahead, and just let us know so we wonít use it.

We will also put your name on our writersí pool, and contact you for an appropriate project."

congratulations. I look forward to seeing what you sent in.

It was 16 pages, no more than 8 words per page, and every odd and even page rhymed.

I wrote a lot of books like these for a book packager once when I was just starting out so it kind of brought back old memories.

It's still not a lock that anything will ever come of it. I am trying to get a bit more information from June on what type of publication schedule they have.

They have a certain number of stories they will definitely publish and they held another dozen stories they hope to publish. Mine is in the later group.

Just an slight update. I've been told they would like to hold my story for two years in case their editors decide they want to go forward.

Two years is a long time but I wrote the story just for this project so I figure I have nothing to lose. And of course if the right opportunity presents itself I am still free to sell the story.

I submitted to June Lee too. Sent three possibles based on their requirements. Two were rejected and one is still being considered. June was true to her word and got back to me when she said she would.

You never can tell with this sort of thing. I have four grandchildren and they seemed to favour the two rejected tales. But they always say your nearest and dearest are not the best yardstick.

I will let you all know how things develop. Also, I am sure that everyone who got a no from this gig sent brilliant captivating work, sometimes it's just hard to hit the mark.

By the way, The Hitcher isn't my real name. It's Juliette! :-)

Hi all,

It has been a while. I wasn't sure until now so I couldn't post much but it seems I passed the first round. :) The editors are still deciding though...

At this moment in time, I have to wait and see if the story gets accepted and I get to sign the contract.

June did tell me that I have an option to get the advance now, or later (depending on the decision of the editors).

What do you think? How do people get paid online anyway? Paypal?

seaaircarol
06-30-2010, 07:21 PM
Yes, PayPal is the standard way of receiving payment online.

But I'm a little confused. Is she saying that if the editors turn you down, you have to repay the money?

Congratulations at any rate!

Carol

jinkang
06-30-2010, 07:27 PM
Thank you!

From what I understand, here, advance is the small portion that gets paid out once you pass the first round. I'm guessing if I take that, and my story does get accepted, then I'll get paid the remaining.

seaaircarol
06-30-2010, 07:35 PM
Hi jinkang,

Hmm. Interesting. I've never heard of an advance working that way. Maybe others have.

Typically an advance is given when a work is accepted. Then you receive royalties (hopefully) once the work is published. If you don't end up making any royalties, you still get to keep the advance.

I'm assuming that you wouldn't have to pay back this advance if the editors end up passing?

May I ask how much of the $200 they are willing to give you now?

Carol

jinkang
06-30-2010, 07:46 PM
Hi Carol,

Not a problem. I could be wrong but this is what I understand. There are no royalties, by the way, as far as I know.

Once the story is fully accepted, you get $200.

But before the story is fully accepted, you can get $60 out of $200 if the story makes it to the first round.

So, if I do take the 'advance', and if my story does pass the second round, I'll get $140 afterwards.

regards,

Jin

06-30-2010, 08:58 PM
Hi Jin,

I don't see any reason, therefore, not to take the $60.00. I wonder why they even give you a choice. Why wouldn't anyone take it, I wonder?

I would grab it!

Best,
Carol

Just got the 'not now, but may be later' email today. I guess I will have to wait and see in two years.

Good luck everyone.

They did. :) It was over paypal and very prompt. Over all, I was very impressed with June.
