Jane McGonigal, she's one of those scientists optimistic about gaming.
As far as I can tell, she things games will be useful as a sort of motivational cure-all.

Some stuff from the vid:
Estimated combined total time of all players spent in WoW: 5.93 million years, not too bad, only a little over 4,520 hours for each player. Which is only around half a year of total playing time, little less actually.

Also, people can expect to spend about 10K hours gaming by age 21.
