Here it is!

"But an editor can be fired, I eventually learned. And when he is fired, he is no longer an editor, merely an item in the statistics of the unemployed.

Not so a writer. He cannot be fired. He might be rejected, he might fail, he might starve, he might be forced to keep body and soul together by taking some menial (i.e., non-writing) employment, he might be ignored by the critics and denounced by the publicóbut he was a writer, a failed writer, an unsuccessful writer, a starving writer, a writer. No editor could change that fact."

~ Isaac Asimov "Murder at the ABC"

SO KEEP IT IN MIND!

Asimov is one of my favorites and I figured there are many on here who could gain from it! I know it bolstered me just now!

Bit of overkill in the quote, I'd say. An editor who gets fired doesn't cease to be an editor. He becomes an unemployed editor. To say otherwise is to deny editors a portable skill set and earned identity apart from their particular position. It's like saying an unemployed physician is no longer a physician -- all those years of schooling and experience are wiped out by a stroke of the HR pen?

Funny hopw such quotes usually come from highly successful people who haven't been fired as editors, , or haven't failed as writers.

An editor who gets fired is still an editor. A writer who fails is still a writer. Neither means anything except that the editor has to look for a new job, and the writer should probably do the same thing.

And I just got dissed by an editor, but I don't want him to lose his job. I've got to reread the story first -- he might be right. ;)

I just posted it to remind people that they can still write, published or not! It was supposed to be inspiring. I didn't mean to insult editors at all! It was just supposed to give people who read it a little boost!

I knew your heart was in the right place. However, I just had to give Isaac a smack on the wrist for lapse of logic, since he can't smack back. Or can he?

:scared:

He cannot. He passed away years ago sadly enough.
