I'm with Team USA 100%, but if I was a betting man I'd put the dough on the Canadians after that thrashing they laid on Russia...

USA may come back in the second half given their age and fitness.

Just hang around USA. Stay in the game. Wait for your moment.

And win, Rocky.

Win.

And the crowd goes wild!
Canada 3, USA 2, in overtime-- for those who missed it.

DeleyanLee
03-01-2010, 02:55 AM
And it was a Pittsburgh Penguin that scored the winning point!

Either way, we were going to rock here--we had 2 players on each team. :D

But both teams kicked ass out there. It was a great game.

Congrats, Canada. Well played. Damn Canadianians. :D

Oh, stop it now. They won fair and square. Even though I came close to stroking out a few times. Perhaps if our ancestors had followed through on what they should have done during the War of 1812, or perhaps during the Revolution, things might have been different. For now, we've got to deal with it.

Someone please pass the poutine.

Each team won one and lost one. It would be nice to have a tiebreaker, eh?

Nah. We couldn't have had a better championship game. Two zip, then the Americans tie it up with, what, 50 some seconds left? And overtime. There is nothing better than an overtime hockey game for all the marbles.

I'm disappointed as hell, but it was a game to remember. And, you know, if the Americans had brought Chelios back, it might have gone the other way. :D

Okay, okay. You get Baltimore too. But that's it.

You do realize you'd have to take Labrador too? They are one province together you know. And very insistent that they be mentioned at the same time. Newfies get right uppity if you leave out Labrador.

America won the Olympics.

Most medals in Winter Olympic history.

But congrats on the Hockey gold. Great game. A classic. I'm proud of our boys. But it was meant to be for you guys.

Hockey is such a great sport.

Thank you, Edmund Hockey for inventing it.

New Jersey would soooo ruin that nicey-nice reputation Canada has. I can just hear it now:

"Eff me???? Eff you, eh."

or

"Fuggedda-boot-it!"

:D

It was great game (even thought the wrong team won ;) Betcha we'd have won if Al Michaels was calling the game.) and a great Olympics overall. :D

Y'all can fight over the mentioned Provinces, but if trade came to trade, I'd take Alberta (with all of its petroleum and natural gas rights). And they have the eastern side of the Rockies as well.

Great win, Canada. Great game, Americans. This was a stand-up-and-pace type of game. It also had all of the physical action of an NHL game without the flying fists.

Is it traditional in Canada to celebrate sporting success by eating a biscuit? Round my way, we taunt the opposition and have a small riot, but we're a little old-fashioned.

Hahaha...I made gold-medal cookies because I'm a nerd like that, and we all agreed that if Canada lost we would throw them out the window and watch them smash to the ground!

...but luckily those measures were not necessary ;)

PS: and as much as my American pals taunted me before the game, you know about how we'd never win and that we even suck at this one thing we're supposed to be good at (), I simply told them that their team played a good game, which is true. It's the Canadian way ;)

Traffic on the main streets in many if not most major (and some minor) cities came to a screeching halt in the hours following the game.

I drove my daughter back to school in Waterloo last night. We were going to go to the music building first to drop off her cello--we didn't stand a chance of getting into that building. The road was blocked with hundreds, maybe a thousand screaming students.

Both teams played an excellent game though. Both countries should be proud. (Even though most of the players were born in Canada, eh? ;) )

And an aside on that--I went to Niagara Falls last year (Canadian side), and sitting on a bench waiting for the bus, I started chatting with a couple of other tourists. After about one sentence, they said, "You're definitely a Canadian!"

Eh? :D

IT varies by province. Newfies have their own accent which is unlike those in Ontario or BC.

Definitely. But then, so does New Brunswick, P.E.I. and Nova Scotia. And then again, Northern Ontario has several different accents as well...and way different than Southern Ontario. Oh, and then again, there's also Quebec. North Shore and South Shore. We are a country with as many accents as neighbourhoods.

And then again...I can walk down the street and hear 4 languages within a couple of minutes. We are also a country of as many languages as there are countries.

But, I know, Brainstorm...I was only teasing. You guys really don't say 'eh'. (-;

I'm not a big hockey fan, but I watched this game. :D I missed two busses to watch the end.

And yes, as much as I feel bad that the Americans lost, because you could tell they REALLY wanted it, I'm proud of the home team. I would've been very upset if Canada lost our national sport on our home soil. That would've been like a kick in the face. But the girls and the boys got the gold, and that was all I cared about. :D :D

We say "eh" where I live. I'm in Calgary AB, and I love my city to death. But the accent varies. It's really entertaining that a lot of people (especially in Europe) expect Canadians to sound like Newfies.

Even other Canadians make fun of Newfies. :e2tongue:
