View Full Version : Dumb Question?

I am finally in the home stretch. It looks like I will have at least 3 solid chapters (non-fiction) and my proposal ready and in limbo for when I begin querying agents within the next few days.

This may sound like a ocmpletely stupid question, but should I begin with agents who are closer geographically to me or is that not necessary?

Start with agents who can sell your book. Seriously.

There's no need for an agent to be near you -- and a lot of people would say that if an agent's not in New York you don't want 'em anyway. In this day and age of email, faxes and cell phones, anything your agent needs to communicate to you will happen promptly. Don't worry about geography -- focus on finding an agent who represents the sort of work you write, and who can sell it to a publisher you've heard of.
