...In your stories that is.

My heroes have laid wast to hundreds of henchman.
I've blown up villain bases and planets.
Many have fallen to show how bad the monster is.

What's your death count like?

I can't count that high. I ran out of fingers and toes years ago.

So far, I have decided upon 4 deaths but they were from the get go and not like they were good friends that I had to just off.

Uh....last story was four. Current story is looking like it's going to be a couple of main characters and probably three or four henchmen.

I've got one with a death toll of about twenty. I'm sure I've had more in other stories, but that's just off the top of my head. I've got to stop procrastinating now haha.

You know, I think I almost always know when I'm gonna kill someone from very on in the story, if not before I start. I never get that attached because of it, though sometimes it is a bit sad to see them go.

My current work is a bit of an exception. I killed one character because I really dislike him and was trying to think of a way to get rid of him, and his dying really added to the everything going horribly wrong for one of my MCs. ;)

That sounds really warped, doesn't it?

Just today alone, eight! But they were bad people.

One - a little girl (http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1447348&postcount=205) who wandered out of her backyard in a blizzard. I hated writing it.

Why did I come to think of this scene? :)

I prefer to break their minds with psychological torment.

Oh, yeah. Libbie likes it dark and pretty.

Well I don't count nameless extras, like soldiers or pirates or gangs . . . so aside from them . . . as far as significant named characters go . . .

ALEX: four (yup, my first MG was quite a blood bath evidently :) )
TIMOTHY: one
YA #1: eight (though this is the one where the nameless extras really add up)
YA #2: none (which is odd considering what happens. . .)

That was really interesting to count.

Thou shalt not kill.

Okay, I gave one guy a heart attack while fly fishing in a river. It was so sad.

My first novel, I offed one. In my current work in progress, let's see, ... six, seven, no, eight. Besides these, coffins of unnamed people were flying up the hill.

Man, this sounds perverted.

Quite a few, but the one death I wrote that still upsets me is a horse. To this day I feel like I walked out to the field he was in, looked him in the eye and killed him.

In Space Opera, MC has killed quite many. Can't tell in numbers, but many and more will follow later.

I wouldn't be able to count from every story so I'll just go from the WIP.

Thus far, about halfway through, I've only killed four people. Of course, a Godfather-inspired assassination montage followed by a shootout/massacre are coming in the next chapter or two, so that number should see a marked increase by week's end...

I'd say less than a hundred, but more than seventy. I have a few scenes that aren't specific as to death tolls. :)

My son has told me not to kill any more of his favourite characters.

So I won't let him read any more hehe

Um, lots. I seem to have a habit of killing my main peeps. Oops.

Book 1 - Hrm. Maybe 20?
Book 2 - Thousands
Book 3 - Billions
Book 4 - Thousands
Book 5 - 486. (+/- 20 or so) Yes thats accurate, the number is specifically mentioned in the book.
Book 6 - No one yet, but I think the body counts gonna be pretty low. 1-3 tops. Only know of one char who dies for sure.

I've just started a new WIP and someone's already dead before the story begins.

What? Don't look at me. He was already dead when I started writing!

In my current WIP, that would be roughly 10 so far... Itís still early days but I canít see the count rising too much before the end. Now if I ever get around to writing the entire series, then that last book is going to have a huge death toll. Then again the ideas for the series only exist in my head and things could happen to change it by then. :)

In my most recently completed screenplay, just 1. But there were two other severely injured characters, and a few arrests. Not very bloody, I'll admit, but it was a comedy after all.

Fourteen.

Oh, you mean in my novel...hehe

So far, I've killed one, mentioned seven deaths that occurred before the book actually began, but plan to kill at least thirteen more.

In Overlord, my new WIP, my antagonist has killed billions. It was a genocide. A planetocide. He blew up a whole planet. But it was a billion years before the story begins, and they weren't human. :)

It's actually "murder" not kill. Big difference.

Giving someone a heart attack is probably murder though.
