Get ready for six more weeks of winter (http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/weather/02/02/groundhog.day/index.html?iref=allsearch).

Punxsutawney Phil, America's most famous rodent prognosticator, saw his shadow Tuesday, signaling six more weeks of winter.

At least there'll be plenty of rodent meat to fuel you through the dark days ahead.

We don't have groundhogs over here. He looks so sweet I wish we did!

I'll bake it some strychnine cookies...extra chocolate chips.

General Beauregard Lee didn't see his shadow. Neither did any other of the weather groundhogs but Phil.

One of my coworkers used to work at said library and attests to the fact that Phil is really a male. She saw proof of it one spring while Phil was enjoying the mating season.

Fortunately, the library was closed at that time and no little children were traumatized by the sight.

But, yeah, such a hard life for a ground hog. Dragged out of the warm comfort of his home and stuck into the frozen ground so some idiot can haul him out by the scruff of his neck. The price one pays for fame and all.

I'm also about an hour from there, FWIW.

But Wiarton Willie and Shubenacadie Sam did (http://www.nationalpost.com/story.html?id=2512533). All I know is that I blame Phil.

My heart for those who's struggling with winter weather. Southern Finland is strugging too. Espcially capital city Helsinki. :D

on a side note, I live somewhere in middle of Finland. It doesn't bother me. :D

KellyAssauer

Somewhere right now in Hollywood:

“You see this? that rodent Phil was a girl once, gilded cage and all.”
“Yeah, mating season, haha!”
“Hey... Hey! What if ‘Queen for a day’ was like a princess?”
“Oooo yeah! Fantasy Lovelorn vixen trapped, I love it!”
“Top Hats gents, are like evil troll - keepers of talisman?”
“Yes! Yes! Do go on!”
“Maybe a corseted fantasy film, ala Helena Bonham Carter?”
“Who?”
“Never mind, seriously though, young Princess in peril”
“Yeah, but who?
”Angeline Jolie?”
“No, no! Need young and innocent.”
“You’re right that’s a stretch...”

And you wondered where they get these insane ideas. =)

I don't understand. Isn't there always slightly more than 6 weeks of winter left as of Feb 2?

ad_lucem
02-02-2010, 07:49 PM
But, but, that's not a groundhog, that's a woodchuck! :D ('least that's what I grew up calling them...)

We don't have any here. Just prairie dogs, and no one ever asks their opinion on the weather--oddly enough.

I blame our lack of visible seasons on the dearth of woodchucks. Surely, if there were some around to consult about their shadows, it would snow here.

I just finished reading your new blog post. I'd say you need to get out more, but by the little f*****g ba****rd rodent I doubt that will be possible.

I live in MA we have had 65 in Feb and a blizzard in April. I hate winter too. Knife the little rodent for me once or twice, Haggis.

And yes, I have donated to a charity helping Haiti. Me likey Oxfam

Oh pashaw..that's just crazy talk. Every sensible adult in North America knows the weather is controlled by marmots. In fact, we could solve global warming if only we could find a way to create a clone hybrid of Al Gore and Mr. (or Ms. as the case may be) Punxatawney Phil.

How could we shorten that, I wonder? To make it more catchy?

Sounds like quite a pairing...

I live near Portland, OR. We don't have a groundhog. We have a hedgehog named Chriki. This is so much better than having a groundhog. Hedgehogs are much easier to throw.

We have a lot of trees too. Just sayin'.

In other news, Wollondilly Wayne the Wombat saw his shadow yesterday... so, here in Oz, we're due for six more weeks of summer.
