Groundhog day? Bah, humbug.

Welcome to Imbolc, one of the four medieval and earlier Irish quarter days. Imbolc, literally "in the bag, or belly" marks spring's fertility, with links to lambing, and the return of milk, and various rituals around purification.

It's not in the individual events, Mac, but in the progression. GH Day is just another guidepost pointing the way through that progression. Some guideposts have great fanfare and inspire great feelings of giving and receiving (or just good feelings). Others are just checkpoints, to be counted but not discounted. Happy 2010 journey to everyone as we pass one of those lesser guideposts.

My daughter goes into a big depression when it's all over. Even when we put up our tree and decorate either on Thanksgiving day or sometime before then. The stuff usually comes down before new years. Strangely, this year I miss it too. So I remedy it by saving a little cash for the after glow of Christmas and hitting the sales. That usually cures me and seeing all the vultures out lapping up the leftovers makes me happy New Year's is here. Now I have all my Valentines decorations up all over the house. It looks like lovers lane. Need a smooch?:D

Don't tell me not to live, just sit and putter
Life's candy and the sun's a ball of butter
Don't bring around a cloud to rain on my parade
Don't tell me not to fly, I simply got to
If someone takes a spill, it's me and not you
Who told you you're allowed to rain on my parade
I'll march my band out, I'll beat my drum
And if I'm fanned out, your turn at bat, sir
At least I didn't fake it, hat, sir
I guess I didn't make it
But whether I'm the rose of sheer perfection
A freckle on the nose of life's complexion
The Cinderella or the shine apple of its eye
I gotta fly once, I gotta try once,
Only can die once, right, sir?
Ooh, life is juicy, juicy and you see,
I gotta have my bite, sir.
Get ready for me love, 'cause I'm a "comer"
I simply gotta march, my heart's a drummer
Don't bring around the cloud to rain on my parade,

I'm gonna live and live NOW!
Get what I want, I know how!
One roll for the whole shebang!
One throw that bell will go clang,
Eye on the target and wham,
One shot, one gun shot and bam!
Hey, Mr. Arnstein, here I am ...

I'll march my band out, I will beat my drum,
And if I'm fanned out, your turn at bat, sir,
At least I didn't fake it, hat, sir,
I guess I didn't make it
Get ready for me love, 'cause I'm a "comer"
I simply gotta march, my heart's a drummer
Nobody, no, nobody, is gonna rain on my parade!

I liked the idea of linking AWers books up there. So I have done.

This week's book is our own Uncle Jim's Apocalypse Door - which is a kick-ass yarn about Templars, dangerous nuns, and Great Peril narrowly averted (and all well before Dan Brown's DaVinci Code)--if you haven't read it, you should oughta take a look.

Rosemary Edghill says (http://www.sff.net/people/doylemacdonald/ad_excerpt.htm) of it, "Sort of like if the Pope and Aleister Crowley had written James Bond."

I'll be watching for other AWers books, too, as the whimsy strikes me and as I've read 'em, so can recommend 'em in good conscience.
