... have display images off, so can't see the ones you've posted. My guess from the context is that they are animal tracks of some sort. A raccoon's is my guess for the first, and a crow's for the second set. Now for my prize for guessing correctly :-)

They're round, snow markings on the ground, Ken. Like the impression of a doughnut.

You really should turn images on for this one.

I can't get a perspective on the size and location. Are they along a sidewalk?

Sophia
02-02-2010, 12:28 AM
They look to me like the underside of a walking frame or stick, with the rubber suction cap things making the doughnut shapes.

Edit: Actually, I take that back. They're too close together. Baby Cthulhu it is!

In the first shot, there's actually a circle on the side of the curb, which makes it look like the tracks went up the side of the curb.

I'm thinking some some animal set up caution cones for a snake race...

Snowstorm

Do you have any ideas, Ol' Fashioned Girl? I'm flipping through my animal tracks book.

It's. Driving. Me. Nuts.

DO DO do do, DO Do do do ... It's sucking me in ! ...

marks left by water dripping onto snow from overhead wires

It's clear to me...

...they were left by a three-legged man with a limp.

Guys, you'll hate me... I don't know what it is. That's why I came here - to the Repository of All Knowledge!

To put some perspective on it - they start in the middle of the road and go slanty-wise toward the curb, over the curb, to the driveway.

Lemme check on the overhead wiring... bbiab...

:)

this might sound a little loopy...

... could it have been a result of electro-magnetic discharge?

Now I'm expecting a lesson on the reproduction of electromagnets.

Ol' Fashioned Girl

Well... it was a long 'bit'. I still haven't heard back from my niece with the answer to the 'are there any wires over the tracks' question.

It's driving me nuts, too.

Well... 'nuttier' than I already am, anyway.

GAH! No above-ground wires at all.

ZOMG!!!11!! WHAT MADE THOSE TRACKS!!!???!!

This is driving me nuts. I showed the pictures to my husband last night and we sat there for like thirty minutes trying to figure it out.

Haggis

Was cray in your neighborhood recently? They look like the kind of tracks he'd make.

On his head!?

I'm unsure.

I can't say I've ever really seen a battery walk.

BigWords

Given the distance apart, I would guess they were made by a dwarf on a pogo stick... I have no idea how he managed the vertical movement marks, but he should be very proud of himself.

I'd think it'd be more of a... rolling track than a hopping one.

Silver King
02-03-2010, 05:26 AM
That's obviously a trail left by the Life Savers Mint fairy to find her way home.

I can't believe no one else has figured that out by now.

It IS Cray, and he's lodged inside the nether regions of a one-legged Energizer Bunny.

What if we never find out? I mean... I don't think I can live with not knowing...

Have these ever been seen before in the vicinity? Has she yet consulted a young priest and an old priest?

Silver King

Maybe the Wiggly Wriggly fairy, as I suggested earlier, didn't leave mints behind after all but hopped on one leg in her high heel all the way home?

bettielee

I've check the fairyverse... no fairies involved.

Please don't waste your time on searching out fairy options.

It was not fairies.

It's driving us nuts, too. I've posted it in ulocal - we'll see if that stirs up any theories.

I hate this!

What if it's some kind of nefarious alien plot!?

bettielee

It probably is. It's one of their mad experiments. They do some weird shit and see how we react. I just know it.

Ooh, found it!

http://aviewfromthegreenbarn.blogspot.com/2009/02/mysteries-at-green-barn.html

"Bishop the Barn Cat walked across the snow here when the snow was about 5" deep. As the snow packed down to about 3" in the warm sun, the snow left little protrusions around each track."

Mela

OK, then, there's no footprints, right? So it couldn't have been something someone carried that dripped out.
Me thinks it could have been some sort of substance deposited there previously around which the snow formed its funny geometrics - something was dripped onto the pavement, curb and sidewalk and solidified or ...

A NEW VERSION OF CROP CIRCLES!!!
