Received an email rejection today that said:

"We like your article, but we can't schedule it yet. We would like to file it in our cupboard and get back to you next year. You are more than welcome to shop it around to other magazines."

Any thoughts?

This is most often a very good response. It means they can't find place for it right now, but they like it, and would like to hold onto it until a spot opens up next year. In the meantime, you are free to try to sell the piece elsewhere. But if you do sell it elsewhere, let this place know.
