Unsung modern conveniences

I know that electricity and flight and the blessed, blessed internet are everyday marvels that we all enjoy. And don't even get me started on air-conditioning and mind-boggling medical advancements.

But yesterday I had my garbage disposal replaced. It's been on the fritz since July. I swear, that's got to be one of my favorite appliances. I just flipped the switch and aaaahhhhhhh, dinner scraps disappear like they'll never stink up my garbage can again.

So, what other modern (or even modern-ish) conveniences don't get enough strokes?

Ha! I'd forgotten that I've mused on this before. I love the pause button. I even wrote a blog essay about it once.

And anti-lock brakes were developed in my other favorite sport, Formula 1 Racing. (They aren't used anymore.)
