A while ago I sent out 20 queries and got 9 requests (6 full, 3 partial), most of them within 24 hours.

12 days ago I sent out six more queries and as yet have heard nothing! This is the same book, same pages, same query. Is it the holiday jet lag? Just a bad batch of choices? Does it take longer when the agent asks to see 5-10 or 50 pages with the query?

Or maybe there's something wrong with my email? I feel like sending them all over again from a different address.

Responses under 24 hours are really rare. One month is average for query response times, sometimes even taking as long as several months. Also, some agents don't respond if interested. Be patient. Good luck :)

Define "a while ago." Could be a bad batch or could be that things are busier now than whenever "a while ago" was (More than a year?).

Or it could just be the combination of holliday catch up and ALA conference last week...

Either way, 12 days is really not long...

Popmuze, Verla Kay's boards have an awesome response time board. Since you're working on YA these days, I bet you'd find it useful.

Can you link to the response time board? I can't find it.

I've been noticing quite a few agents mentioning lately that they've been really hit with queries the past couple of weeks as well, which might have something to do with it.

Here's the link:

It's for registered members only, so you might not be able to view unless you're registered.

It probably is holiday jet lag. Because so many writers somehow think submitting anything too close to Christmas is a bad idea, they all hold back and then flood agents and editors right after Christmas. This bogs everything down for a few weeks.

From what I've heard, that big clump of post-holiday submissions just hit this week.

Querytracker also gives you average response times.

Just as an experiment, I sent out two more queries on Tuesday from a different email address. Today I got a request for pages, putting me back on my original pace. I'm still wondering if some of those six straight no responses got lost in the email ether.

Incredible!! Normal response time 4-8 weeks.

Actually, the couple or so who took a few weeks apologized for the delay in getting back to me when asking for pages.
