View Full Version : Increasing Your Posts Count

As you can see from my post counter I am a new and inexperienced member of AW. I have read sticky's on many of the forums and they state either directly or indirectly that members have to pay their dues via posts before they should expect to apply for beta readers, reviews ect.

I have no dramas with that at all.

Then I look at some members who have been on the site for less than a year and they have thousands of posts to their credit.

What I want to know do you or have you posted or commented in the past just to raise your post counter?

KTC
01-18-2010, 11:11 PM
you're barking up the wrong tree.

Just respect your fellow writers. You can post in SYW without collecting a higher post count. You can post your work for critique..and you can be nice and critique the work of others.

Don't assume.

All I can say to that is:

Hi and welcome to AW! (rofl),

No seriously, increasing your post count was never a priority (I was poking fun above at those who hang out endlessly and welcome newbies in the welcome newbie thread) There are/can be advantages to having a higher count, AV's and more mail space etc.. but none of it really matters in the end.

What matters is what you're here for, gaining insight on writing. Worry about that, and everything else will follow - but, if you feel the need to increase your count just 'cause. This is a great place to do that. =)

Seriously, Welcome to AW, and ask away!

Your post is blatantly an attempt to increase your post count. Though its somewhat clever, and meta in its irony to have a post about post count in which you only serve to increase your post count, I feel that these kinds of worthless, pointless posts, do not do anything to aid in the structure of this site.

Every single post made on this forum is specific to writing, and on topic. Deviations from topic are met with near immediate moderation. You would do well to research some of this on your own before coming on here making such inflammatory, inciting comments.

That is a logistical failure. There is always a winner, and always a loser.

The easy way to determine the loser is whether or not their Name reads "Lucidzfl"

Hint: The loser is the other poster.

no, no. your post count will go up. but you don't need a high post count to contribute. to use the critigue forums. there are no requirements. just because there are on other sites, doesn't mean there are on AW. You can post your work and you can critigue the work of others right now. I meant don't assume that the rules are the same everywhere. Feel free to critigue. And welcome to AW.

Are you serious? To my mind I asked a genuine question. I have read several times in the beta reader section (research) that those with higher counts are looked on more favourably as it shows they have "put back" into the site. I have no qualms with that as it is fair.

I just wondered how some members reach such high numbers of posts over short periods of time. You for example.

I started posting 3 days ago and have got to 10 odd posts as I have posted on subjects that interested me or which I knew something about. I haven't nor do I intend to post for the sake of posting or increasing my figures.

You also say that every topic in the forums are devoted to writing and I have wandered off topic. How so? In my RESEARCH I have noticed thousands upon thousands of threads that have absolutely nothing to do with writing. Mine by comparison does.

And if you consider my post inflammatory you must reside in a silken cocoon.

I do too. Franzia is the daily swill in my abode. We get blackbox if we feel like splurging!

Seriously though, I keep bottles of Rex Goliath on hand as well. Shiraz, Pinot, Cab, etc. My liquor store has always got them on sale, 2 for 10$ and they're pretty good. Exceptional for the price...

And to you KTC...

I charted a fishing boat in Key West. It was byob. I didn't feel like chugging beer, and we had a bottle of a nice crisp white wine so I took it in the cooler on the boat. I didn't want to use a glass since, hey, its the frickin' ocean, so I drank it out of an empty water bottle.

Welcome to AW, akmacca.

Here's what I think. Many people feel it's a good idea to try to get to know AW members by posting in places such as Office Party. This will serve that purpose AND increase your post count if that's what you want to do.

If you are serious about getting your work published, you are focusing on the wrong things. AWWC should just be one of many avenues to your dreams, it should not be the only one. Plus, the objective of sites like this is to offer suggestions, critiques and other valuable information to writers, but you'll need much more than that to get published...I don't care how many critiques you get and how good they are.

As a writer I can totally understand about you wanted people to critique your work, and that's fine BUT, do not forget that you can also pay people to edit your work.

Whatever gets you published, and even if it takes forever.

It comes in bottles? And plastic?

Over here in highly sophisticated Scotland (motto: The Class Is Just Pishin' Oot Us) the only thing that comes in plastic bottles is cider. This cider's great and multi-purpose; when it goes out of date you can unblock drains with it.

Do not turn this into yet another erotica thread. I cannot abide seeing yet another post where Scarlett comes in and takes over.Too late, fucker. I got an email from one of my minions informing me of the existence of this travesty of a thread. Upon my return from Asdaland (where I bought some bin bags and a jug of milk) I hastened herewards to kick arse and take names.

And you have a huge arse.
she is donning gloves as we speak. What do you think the bin bags are for?
I thought she always worked bareback.... Or barehanded?Ugh. STFU, waster.
We don't joust; we fling feces.Only baboons do that.

I don't know how anyone has the time to accumulate THOUSANDS of posts that fast... :) (and still have time to work, write, eat, sleep, LIVE, socialize, etc. :D)

On another note... I've had individuals approach me to beta read who hadn't even posted or that only had a few posts, etc. I don't think you need worry about your post count. Contribute to threads that interest you and respect your fellow posters--the rest will work itself out. I know that I personally reviewed member posts before even considering a beta project (back when I was beta reading) but I can't speak for anyone else.

I'm off the booze while I'm on the beta-blockers. No cheese, citrus fruit or chocolate either.

But I have Pringles!

Rep this woman immediately. She's desperate. ;)

Thanks to everyone who sent me rep points. Such a shameless RP grab has honestly never worked for me before (and I'm sure I've tried it).

I'm off the booze while I'm on the beta-blockers.

But I'm drinking your share, so the world is still balanced.

No one other than an Aussie could take over a Scot's drinking without suffering serious consequences.

don't make me come over there...snap it. snap it.

if you do, though...make sure you get the whole family in the shot---the Dixie Cups, paper plates, clothes pins, flannel shirts...everything. And don't forget Wanda. But for the love of god...make her put her teeth in before you take the shot.
