View Full Version : Choice for font style, size and line spacing

I am self publishing my book, and I am trying to decide on the font type, size and line spacing to use. This is my first book, and it is non fiction about youth soccer for parents and coaches....sort of a how-to book, but with a storyline about my experiences.

It will be 5.5 x 8.5. I was thinking about Georgia, size 11, 1.3 line spacing. Any opinions?

You might want to join the Yahoo Self-Publishing group (http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/Self-Publishing/) and post the inquiry there. Pete Masterson participates in that group. He is author of Book Design and Production (http://www.amazon.com/Book-Design-Production-Pete-Masterson/dp/0966981901), which you might also want to consult.

My own experience suggests that you will want to experiment to see what looks good in print. My own quick impressionistic onscreen eyeballing of a couple of sample pages set up as you described suggests that the result might be ok for the purpose you stated.

Thanks for the link, ResearchGuy. I'll have to check it out.

For my own books, I've found Garamond 11 with 1.15 inch space (one of the Office 07 quick options for line spacing) to be ideal.
