Do agents take on clients if they have a contract for a second book in a series but were unrepped for the first book? Does it depend on the size of the publisher?

Thanks from chilly Saskatoon!!

What would the agent have to do if the author already has a contract? Aren't the terms pretty well set already?

I don't know that it would matter that you were unrepped for the first book, especially if there's already an offer on the table for another. That shows you're marketable which is one of the primary things an agent wants to see.

When I got my first agent, I had an offer on the table and I know I got a quicker response from my agent because of that than I might have if I had gone about the usual query process.

If you have been offered a contract, yes, they certainly may take you on! You never know until you query.
