Is there a way to be notified by email when I get a new a private message?

Also, what does the "Request a read receipt for this message" checkbox do?

Thanks,
Happy New Year!

Yes -- if you go to Edit Options, either via your User CP or the Quick Links links in the blue menu bar at the top of most pages, you can select the option to be notified by e-mail there.

I've never tried it, but I'm guessing the read receipt lets you know when someone has read the message you've sent them.

Elara is right; if you got to your User CP (at the top left of the page), then, down the left hand side of the page are other links. Under the sub-heading of 'Settings and Options' there's a link that says 'Edit Options'. You then just have to check the box to Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages. Oh, don't forget to then go to the bottom of the page to 'save changes'.

and Elara is again correct about the read receipts. I think a box comes up when the person gets a PM asking them to confirm receipt or something like that, although it gives the option to cancel the box too, so is pretty pointless I'm guessing.

Have you double-checked that you have actually checked that box in the 'edit options bit of the User CP? And then gone to the bottom of the page to 'save changes'?

We also have a number of users that enter their email addresses incorrectly, or forget to change them, resulting in hundreds of bounced thread-subscription updates...

I've fixed it.

The PM e-mail notification works, but I am not sure about the thread subscription notification.. I have checked all the settings and they are in order, and so is my e-mail address. Can someone please reply to this thread, to test if e-mail thread notfication works?..

Thanks much,
JS

Please check your spam or junk email; I've just verified on the server that they are going out, and they are not bouncing.

Which means that they are arriving somewhere.
