A new year, a fresh start...get out there and set up some goals to get yourself off on the right foot (or the left, depending). What are your goals for January?

Mine:

1. 10K words on Death Brings the Victory
2. Plot 2 new short stories
3. Submit 3 short stories

My goals:

1) Finish edits on AFTERLIFE, send to betas by Jan. 2. (ETA: Done!)
2) Finish final revisions on AFTERLIFE, send to publisher by end of month.
3) Make significant progress on outline for BALTHAZAR. (ETA: Still working on this but subsequent events have moved this to a later-in-the-year task.)
4) Start pre-launch publicity/contests for HOURGLASS near the end of the month.

  1. Finish The Devil You Know; should take around 15k.
  2. Edit and query it pretty damn quick.
  3. Get the synopsis for one of tt42's books written.
  4. Re-write my trunk novel as a novella. I expect to take about 40k for this.

Thanks!

I'm adding a new goal. Get out to different threads on AW to meet new members! I tend to stay to my little list of subscribed threads...

I tend to stick to the boards I'm familiar with, but that's mostly due to the fact I'd never have *any* time to get writing done if I roamed freely. ;)

My main goal is to perfect the art of redrafting and polishing my MS to the highest possible standard before querying

Okay, I want to change my goal. Can I do that? LOL. I haven't really gotten into any short stories...and I'm excited to start on a new novel, I've already started brainstorming and researching. So for January, I want to:

1. Outline new novel
2. Begin new novel!! (word count for January TBD..to be determined)

January will be about just keeping writing on the radar, given I haven't thought about it that much in December

  1. Write something – I need to get some words down, anything just to get back to writing. If it's anything more than just one thing, that's a bonus. I could work on a bit of the novel, my novella, a short story or perhaps even a [Friday] Fiction piece.
  2. Do something with My Boss Sucks – Over the weekend I received a rejection from Voiceworks for my short story, My Boss Sucks and now I need to consider what to do with the story based on the rejection letter. I could just resubmit or I could work out how to make some changes to it before sending it out again.
  3. Finish reading The Slap and begin reading Under the Dome by Stephen King (Cultural Goal) – Whilst I didn't finish The Slap as planned in December, I read a fair chunk and am pretty close to finishing. Once I get that out of the way I can dip into Stephen King's new novel, Under the Dome and thereby switching from a character-driven novel to a more plot-driven novel.
  4. Finish Sexuality and Socialism (Political Research Goal) – Another book I didn't finish last month that I planned to, but I didn't even read that much of it, which is a shame. It's a short book so it needn't be that hard. I just need to focus.
  5. Blog at least 3 days a week (Blogging Goal) – I need to get back to a regular blogging routine this month and this means more than these end of 2009, start of 2010 type posts.
