So, for those of you who don't know, there's been a big campaign on facebook. Everyone is fed up with Simon chuffing Cowell and his x-factor people having number ones at christmas. Sooo a campaign was started to get Rage Against the Machine's Killing in the Name Of christmas number one

RATM campaign friends...976000 friends. X-factor opposite group...35 friends.

And now it's official, in the biggest upset since Ernie the Fastest Milkman in the West was a surprise number one, Killing in the Name Of is the UKs number one .Yay. RATM have promised to do a gig in the UK in appreciation. A free one :D

Should make for an interesting christmas countdown on the radio....

OK, I usually have a bit of trouble understanding foreign idioms, but I didn't understand two words of that.

Which two words did you understand lol

Number One - the top selling single in the charts.

Simon Cowell...I know you have him over in the states.

X-factor...um, like American Idol I think. A talent show to find the best singer, the winner getting a contract with said Mr Cowell, like Susan Boyle did ( different show I think though). Don't worry, he'll be bringing it over to you....

What exactly is the deal with the #1 at Christmas thing? I know it was a big deal on Love Actually, but I didn't understand why.

ops. sorry, didn't see that. I hope you explained more clearly than I have.

With Rage Against the Machine at no.1, I feel all hopeful again.

And I was really pleased they didn't censor themselves during the radio five performance they did. Glad the old school's still alive and kicking.

Kinda cool RATM got to the top, wonder how they were picked to be the 'anti-xfactor' song? Feel sorry for the Joe boy though.

Would it sound odd if I said Killing in the Name Of is one of mine and Old Man's songs?

Probably would, wouldn't it? Probably best not to say it then. Ahhh, memories....

And this kind of music is pleasing to you?

Shakes head.....wanders away......what is this world coming to?

And this kind of music is pleasing to you?

If you sandwich it between Green Jelly's Three Little Pigs and Ace of Spades ( and glare at the DJ till he plays them :D) it's quite, quite awesome.

Although I do tend to kinda lose my voice...

And this kind of music is pleasing to you?

It's more pleasing to me than Cowell's latest karaoke cruiseship boy. :D

The same friend on Facebook said this:

I think that it is great that it opens the doors for a lot of kids to discover music with real substance who may not have had the opportunity otherwise ..

And I agree.

Thanks, Adam. I bought their album when it first came out, on vinyl and everything. Now I feel OLD. Older than the hills. So thanks very much. :tongue

"I remember when all this were fields..."

I remember when all this was a field being eaten by stegosauruses...

And Duran Duran were Number One. *sigh*

That's not a good look for anyone!

I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah.

This story appears to tell the whole story:
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/rage-against-the-machine-take-christmas-no1-slot-1846247.html

Perhaps after the '60's domination of the US charts, this is fair play...
