Send my requested partial to the agent or her assistant?

Hi all!

I recently sent a query package to a big name agent at a big name house. I received a letter in the mail a few days ago from the agent's assistant, stating that 'we would like to see a sample of your work' and 'Big-Name-Agent and I look forward to seeing your work'.

So I'm wondering, do I address the partial directly to the agent (as I did with the query package) or do I address it to the assistant?

Thanks!

Since the assistant will probably be the first reader, best to suck up to her.

Irysangel,

I recently had the same thing happen to me, via an e-query. The assistant said almost the exact thing your assistant did. I kept all my correspondences directed at her. I imagine she's the gate-keeper for the agent while he works with current clients. We probably have to wow the assistant in order to get a manuscript passed on to the actual agent.

We'll see.

I did actually end up sending it to the assistant. I figure if nothing else, she'll get me a faster turn-around than Ms. Mega-Agent.

In the meantime, I've had another house request the full, so I'm not quite so worried about the partial! ;)
