In the midst of holiday season, it may be tempting to push off the goals for another month, but don't fall into that trap. Reduce them if necessary, but stick with setting your goals and working toward them. Just like anything you want to succeed at, you'll only improve through persistence and practice.

So, what are your goals for this month?

My aim for this month is to maintain momentum toward my novel, and not use the holidays as an excuse to slack off. But at the same time, I want to balance this with not pushing myself too much so that I burn out.

  1. Add at least 10,000 words toward Barbarism – I'd like to add more but I don't want to heap too much pressure on myself and lead myself to burn out. 10,000 words means at least 500 words a day, 4 days a week and some extra.
  2. Edit and Submit Evicted – This story needs editing and to be sent out in the big wide world.
  3. Write 2,000 words toward a new story – Working on one project all month can be a bit stale so hopefully, inspired by my Political Research Goal, I can get down something fresh to keep keen.
  4. Finish The Slap (Cultural Goal) – End of the year. I need a decent amount of finished books and this one is a bit dense so need to get through it before I never do.
  5. Finish Sexuality and Socialism (Political Research Goal) – Been sucked into Sherry Wolf's book on LGBT politics and its relation to Marxism. I want to finish it to influence the sexuality elements in Barbarism as well as a short story that has homophobia as a central theme. It's also pretty short anyway.
  6. Write some 'Best of 2009' or end of year type posts (Blogging Goal) – I want to wrap up the year with some posts that sum up 2009 and some of the best moments of it, hopefully tapping into the mood of the season. These posts should be sparser and lighter given people might be busy.

1. Hit 1,000,000 words. (Less than 50,000 to go)
2. Finish Nocturne. (A little over 20K in, should end somewhere between 75-95K)
3. Edit World Enough and Time, send to waiting beta readers. (currently about 2/3 of the way through marking up the manuscript)

I'm still waiting for the first round of edits from my publisher... so hard to pin it down, but tenatively, my plans for Dec are...

  • Begin first round of editor's edits on Gothic City Lights
  • Finish polishing query for Dark is the Night
  • Reach 50k on Gothic City Lights II
  • Finish basic design/content on my website
  • begin/finish cover design for GCL

Feel exactly the same as Brindle Chase, and the holidays are here, so feeling this is realistic...
  1. Complete outline on novel #2
  2. 15,000 words on novel #2
Would love to add revisions, but will have to come back later for that...

Good luck everyone.

Good luck, everyone!

I see we're both aiming for 10,000 words on our novels...

I've knocked it down over the last few months. Normally, I split it up between novels and short stories, so go for a monthly word-count total. This month, I've decided I'm going to shelve everything else, and see what I can get.

Okays... My goals this month:

1. Now that I'm working, fit in daily writing of 500 words/day.
2. Start implementing the changes to the second draft of my WIP Unseemly Conduct *excited*
3. Enjoy the first month of summer (yes, you read that right - I'm in the other hemisphere)4. Have a crack at a short story mystery (utlising the 500 words/day goal)

Somewhat late to this party, but....

1. Complete editor revisions in a timely fashion when they come in this month (tentatively scheduled for this Friday, the 11th). Minimize desire to scream, kick, and foam at the mouth.

2. Write 500 words/day minimum on The Project That Shall Not Be Named. Because I'm worth it.

3. Spend some time focused on book marketing plans over the holiday break.

I didn't post a goal?

Well, my goal was to get my ms ready for editors eyes, and I did that.

Now I need something to do till we hear back. 10,000 words would be nice. I'll do that.

I'm only setting one goal for this month and that's to finish the first draft of Warbeast. As noted in my sig, I've only just started it, but the holidays usually mean a little extra time off for me and a lot more stress, which can be alleviated by writing...figure now's as good a time as any.

Plus if I can finish it by the end of the year, I'll have officially written my first complete novel. Complete in a draft sense of course, revisions will probably take most of next year. ;)

The problem is actually keeping on task long enough.

Guess I better go do some writing, didn't get anything done yet today...

2. Stalled...working on Undone instead.
3. DONE and with betas.

I have 450 words, so this is looking a little lofty. It takes me 5 minutes to type a post.

I'm going to just write and wait for some word.

My new goal is to relax. Its been a while since I've done that.

I checked out a 75 year old scotch the other day in case I hear something. That oughta kick start the writing :D

Unfortunately, I haven't started on mine...oops.

I do have some words written on the novel, but haven't had a chance to type them into the computer. Been rather busy reviewing my proofs for Friends in Deed this past week or so. Should be able to get some work done in the next few weeks.
1. 10,000 words on Death Brings the Victory
2. Finish two books on my to-read list

2. Nothing.
