I know everyone regards me as an easy-going, slow to anger, usually helpful, and never argumentative guy. But it's possible that--for the next couple of weeks--I may not be my usual self, in this regard.

Two nights ago, my backpack--containing my laptop--was stolen from my car. My fault. Aside from the thief, there's no one to blame but me. The baby had been sick for a couple of days, had vomitted in the car, and while cleaning up that night, I left the car door unlocked and my backpack in the passenger-side boot. Apparently, there are folks that prowl the neighborhood in the wee hours, checking card doors to see if they are unlocked, then swiping things that are left therein. Super.

Anyway, I lost...well, a lot. A ton, actually. I back up daily, but to a flash drive. Guess where that was.

But I don't really want to talk about it. Just know that if I'm uncharacteristically mean, sarcastic, or cruel, I have a good reason...

Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving! Really.

Offer a reward for the flash drive and put out posters?

(I know, it only encourages the bastards, but you gotta do what you gotta do)

Ha! You should write more fiction. You're really good at it. :D

Seriously, that sucks about losing your stuff. I had something similar happen (with a video and still camera). I didn't care about the equipment, but I had tons of tape and 35mm film undeveloped in those bags. The footage was irreplaceable. That happened years ago, and it still pains me to think about it...

:Hug2: Oh man, that sucks royally. If it makes you feel better my father in law is a professional photographer and he got his best cameras stolen out of his car... and they caught the guys! His equipment was tied up as evidence for months but he finally got it all back. So it does happen.

A thread where "I blame Rob" would be inappropriate. I don't think I've been in one of these before.

Sucks man. Fuck the machine, the work would kill me. Sorry.

The last time I let my younger daughter use my laptop (and it WAS the last time) it got infected with a virus that absolutely killed it.

Along with two completed first (and only) drafts. Man, I feel for you.

I'm sorry to hear that, Rob.

I know how people can be especially at this time of year. A few years ago, I had my station wagon parked in front of my house. (usually it's in the driveway) I'd planned to go off the next morning to do some Christmas shopping. When I got up in the morning, got ready and went outside to jump in the car....

One of the front car windows was broken. There was glass all over the place. I guess they were hoping to steal something out of the car, but nothing was missing.

What it did was mess up my whole day.

Nah. That would've been easily replaceable. Some of the footage I lost was of my youngest boy from the time he was born to just after he learned how to walk.

Oh, and I had some killer fishing shots that are lost forever. One showed a tarpon jumping inside the boat I was in and knocking the console from the deck, ripped it clean off as if it hadn't been bolted to the vessel at all; and another was of a bull shark that attacked a tarpon while a friend was leaning over the side reviving the fish only inches from where the shark appeared. A tug of war ensued for an instant, and all my friend was left with was the fish's head with blood and slime dripping from where the neck should have been. The rest of the tarpon was gone.

I wish I still had that footage, but at least it hasn't been erased from memory...yet.

yes, even though the lappy can be replaced, its the data that was stolen which holds more value.

what words can possibly cover their loss.

Hope your days get better

My dad used to have his motorcycle stolen on a regular basis. It got to the point where he sold it because if it wasn't stolen, it was tied up as evidence. He never got to ride it because it seemed like everyone else but him had it.

I'm sorry this happened, Robovowels. It sucks. :Hug2:

Dooooooooooode. That sucks. But, I have to thank you for the thread because until today I didn't know I needed an excuse to bitter and argumentative. I have so much to rethink now.

Sounds like you're rolling with it pretty well. Right on.
