I keep getting my head bitten off in these forums. I'm not sure why, it's not like I'm a jerk.

Anyway.

My question is, if I self-publish a PDF, and I want to include song lyrics in the beginning of each of the three parts of my novel, can I resolve copyright issues myself, or should I just cut the song all together?

My understanding of this is that you absolutely can resolve the copyright issues, but that it's expensive.

(Wasn't there another thread about this recently?)

Yes, you can definitely resolve lyrics copyright issues. I did it for my novel, and paid 100.00 for the rights, but the song was a relatively obscure circa-1964 oldie. If you're looking to quote something on the order of Thriller, I suspect a hundred bucks won't suffice.

(Oh, and don't worry about the bite marks. They quickly fade.) ;)
