Greetings :),

Hopefully, this is the right place to post this. If not, please correct me.

Today I picked up an advance reading copy of a 2004 novel inexpensively at a local library sale. I was thinking of reselling it on Ebay, where I have occasionally seen such things. However, it is clearly marked "Not For Resale". Can anyone enlighten me as to the relevant law/ethics involved? Once the book is published, do these become collectables and open for sale? I'd like to make a little money on the deal, but I don't want to get in trouble.

Thanks :),

I might be in error...but I think that is for book stores...they can not sell it as a new copy, stock it on their shelves...etc.

What you do with it after you have it I would think is your business.

I think CactusWendy nailed it. What the publisher seeks to avoid is would-be reviewers selling a copy before it even goes to press, or bookstores selling it alongside the final version sold to the public.
