The Yankees and the Phillies. Who are you for?

I'm a Cardinals fan. They had a good year, but didn't quite make the show this time.

Between the Yankees and the Phillies I have to give the nod to the Yanks. There is at least a slight connection with the Yankees and Nashville. Our little AAA team was once affiliated with the Yankees (Mattingly and a few other stars started here). Steinbrenner used to own Nashville Bridge (which actually makes barges); I'm not sure whether he still does or not. Come to think of it . . . maybe I should be for Philly! ;-)

oh yea,...phils all the way.
again! :D

It is against my religion to root for anyone who calls themselves the "Yankees."

Williebee

I'm for the Braves, the Cards, and whoever is playing the Yankees.

I knew there was a reason I liked you Williebee.

Yankees, all the way.

I miss wishing I could go to the victory parade... :D

Angels fan here, so any team playing against the Yankees gets my support.

Silver King

The Tampa Bay Rays!

Oh, sorry, that was last year. I still hold a grudge against Philly, so I'll have to go with New york in this series.

cray

silver king....the yankees!???

oh man, that hurts.

Alpha Echo

Yankees all the way baby.

rhymegirl
10-28-2009, 01:29 AM
I vote neither.

And I heard Fox was going to be televising the world series so that means I'll miss some of my favorite TV shows. Boo hiss!

Shadow_Ferret

Well, I'm an affirmed Yankee hater, BUT... my son's little league team this year was the Yankees and he's taken a liking to them AND I just can't bring myself to root for a team named after girl horses, SO I'll be rooting for the Yankees, as much as it kills me.

Wayne K
10-28-2009, 01:47 AM
Can't a girl horse get some love?

Wayne K

I checked Stubhub and there are tickets available for all the games at Yankee stadium, but not for the Philadelphia games. WTF?

Too pricey for most folks, I imagine.

Wayne K
10-29-2009, 07:35 AM
Actually, I found tickets for $300. That's about the same scalpers were getting last year for the Series.

1 game to none for the Phils. Lee pitched a gem.

Jersey Chick

That and the only Yankee who decided to actually show up was Jeter.

Man, when they suck, they suck...

stupid Yankees.

don't put it all on your boys. i mean, cliff lee was insane last night. he had 4 pitches working perfect all night.

i'm pretty sure he's taking β-blockers too. :D he's a cool cucumber to say the least.

Jersey Chick
10-29-2009, 05:17 PM
I just hope the Yanks are pissed off enough tonight to start hitting.

Especiall Texiera and Swisher - they need to wake the eff up...

Jersey Chick
10-29-2009, 05:32 PM
No one said they were done - but when only Jeter does anything, it's frustrating. And considering Texiera and Swisher have pretty much done jack all post-season, that's also frustrating.

We don't like to lose. Not even one game.

cray
10-29-2009, 05:47 PM
Who *does* likes seeing their team lose?

i love seeing their team lose.
:D

Jersey Chick
10-29-2009, 05:55 PM
Either way, no one said anything about anyone being done. Don't know where that came from. Not liking to see them lose 1 game doesn't equal thinking the Series is over.

Williebee
10-29-2009, 09:39 PM
Lee was amazing.

Go Phillies!

Wayne K
10-30-2009, 03:48 PM
A split in New York gives the Phils the edge.

I don't like seeing the Yankees lose, but when three players combine to make almost 1oo million dollars a year, I can't root for them anymore.

Go Phililies, Indeed!

DWSTXS

Well, I'm not even into Baseball. Give me NFL football.

And I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan, so, naturally, I'd have to root against the Phillies because I can't stand anything Philly-related (baseball or football), but, seeing as how A-Rod took a swim through our Texas Rangers. . .I can't stand them either.

So, I'll leave it up to the baseball fans who know better than I. . .who should get my allegiance on this one?

Wayne K
11-01-2009, 07:04 AM
I just watched Cole Hamels melt down. How did he get so bad so fast?

I don't remember reading anything about him getting hurt. I didn't own a TV until a few months ago, so I don't get the hews.

cptwentworth

Angels. But since they didn't make it in, we're going for the Phillies, or anyone who can beat the Yankees.

game 6 tonight.
i'm nervous.

CDaniel

The Phillies stomped on my Colorado Rockies, so I'm going with the Yanks. :tongue

cray
11-04-2009, 11:42 PM
that's crazy talk.

i read a hilarious (unintended) line in an article today that went something like this....
the yanks are "still stalking that elusive 27th championship..."

it's a pretty terrible thing when a team just can not get that 27th world championship.
poor guys.

CDaniel
11-05-2009, 12:01 AM
What ever shall they do...:D

cray
11-05-2009, 12:04 AM
nearly broke my heart reading that,...

anyway, i really do believe that it would take some sort of miracle for the phils to pull this off.

Jersey Chick

CHAMPIONS!!!!

Wayne K
11-05-2009, 08:54 AM
Looks like the Yankees have won.

Congratulations to them. I've been a fan all my life, so I'm not heartbroken. Props for the Phils, they were a good opponent. Another great season. Philadelphia is a great city, I feel bad for them.

How about them Eagles?

Wayne K
11-05-2009, 08:56 AM
Of course now the burden of the all elusive 28th championship begins.

Wayne K

Yeah, yeah. The Giants suck.

Who cares right now?

NEW YORK YANKEES - 2009 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!!!!!

Sorry about the red - the blue looks too much like black.

And you guys gave us a good showing. Fine opponents, indeed. :D

Jersey Chick

Ahh... but they are champions until next October... ;)

don't rain on my parade, spoiler. You guys just did this a year ago. We've waited nine looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ong years...

There were a lot of moments that could have changed the way this series went. It was like the Series against the Mets. Sure it was 4-1, but there were enough times it could have swung the Mets way, they say it was the closest 4-1 series ever. I'm happy for the fans. I had great times at Yankee stadium. They're great people too.

I was at David Wells perfect game with my brother. I still have the stub.

I was also at Giambi's grand slam game with my wife.

I have a lot of good Yankee memoiries.

Jersey Chick
11-05-2009, 09:08 AM
Awesome memories - I watched all those games. :D

I didn't relax until the last out. I all too clearly remember 2004...

Great competitors, truly. I'm glad Matsui won the MVP, but I could see a case for Chase Utley as well...

Jersey Chick
11-05-2009, 09:18 AM
You can't say that to a Yankee fan - we were up 3-0 in '04 and lost to Boston. That hurts worse than anything - or damn close to it. :D

Ironically, early in the season, we were speculating on whether Joe Girardi would even have a job by the All-Star break. :D

poetinahat
11-05-2009, 09:22 AM
2004... 2004... hmmm... do I remember...

-- and weren't people bagging Girardi for over-managing as recently as this Series? Toughest team ever on managers - look at what happened to Joe Torre, and after the record he compiled!

Wayne K
11-05-2009, 09:29 AM
I was in Marcus Hook when Mickey Vernon died. His funeral prosession went right past my house. Then they won the World Series. We had tickets to game five, we had to sell them. But we listened to the games on the radio every night. We didn't own a TV set.

We listened to Harry Kalas make the final call of the series. I had great Philadelphia memories too. Shame to see them lose.

Jersey Chick
11-05-2009, 09:34 AM
How they treated Torre was disgusting. Hands-down, no bones about it disgusting.

poetinahat
11-05-2009, 10:33 AM
Eh, that's a topic for another day -- didn't intend to rain on the parade!

i still think the phils can win this series.

I was pulling for Matsui to hit for the cycle, but a triple for a guy with shot knees is pretty damn hard to come by. Congrats to Mats though for the MVP.

11-05-2009, 07:45 PM
he deserved it.

i just wish he was a jerk so i could hate him.

Shadow_Ferret
11-09-2009, 08:04 AM
Is it over? Did somebody win?

Wayne K
11-09-2009, 08:09 AM
Yes. Somehow the Yankees managed to overcome the odds of having an all star team with the highest salary in Baseball to win the World Series.
