It seems like every type of medium is in a race to see who can bring us the most bad news, and examples of terrible human behavior. Internet forums most of all. So let's list some GOOD things, big and small, 'cause I'm just utterly sick of the bad ones.
You may have heard of the Kitchenware Revolution here in Iceland, early in the year; In the wake of utter financial collapse, thousands of people surrounded the parliament, chanting slogans, beating pots and pans together, waving banners, clashing with police, and demanding the resignation of the entire government. This was all totally unprecedented in Icelandic politics, with incredible rage on display at the people who sunk our economy in the toilet.
BUT . . . during one of the protests, a funeral procession passed through the area. And the protesters fell quiet, parted ways, and allowed the procession to pass in silence and respect. Afterward, a relative of the deceased expressed her appreciation for this.
So yeah, I'm rather proud of the countrymen on that one.
Also, after the government folded, we wound up with the world's first openly gay head of state. Although granted, I didn't even know she was openly gay until the foreign media made a fuss of it.
