Hi, I need to know what kind of locks for bikes would have been use in the seventies? I want my main character to talk about his new lock.

Mine had a cylindrical combination lock, where you line up the dials and it pulls apart. I'm pretty sure I also saw padlocked chains and those long tined padlocks that could immobilize the wheels.

yup, cylindrical combo lock and good old chain and pad-locks- however it wasn't the norm (at least where I lived) for anyone to lock their bike up back then.

I lived briefly in the San Fernando Valley in the seventies and had a plastic covered cable with a cylindrical sort of combination lock. Nobody would have stolen my huge ugly one speed anyway, everybody had either ten speeds or spider bikes.
