When we bought our first sheltie in 1979, she only cost $125. When we bought our second one in 1993, she only cost $200. Does anyone know what a pure-bred pet-quality sheltie is suppose to cost nowadays? We've seen classified ads asking for about $400 for sheltie puppies and at least one pet store in town asking for about $1800.
P.S. Before anyone mentions it, yes, we're looking at shelter and rescue dogs, too. And we wouldn't mind a small herding dog mix, either. And no, we probably aren't going to get one from the pet store. Ethics issues aside, for $1800 I'd want proven champion parentage, not the puppy of Lassie Jones and Woofie Taylor.
