are Clockwork Orange and Donnie Darko but what genre would you put them in?

Name some other titles that you find hard to categorize.

A Clockwork Orange is dystopian science-fiction. Not sure what to call Darko, other than a damned interesting piece of film.

Donnie Darko is science fiction. It's easier to categorize movies than books. There are a heck of a lot less shelves for the DVD to land on, but before that the movie trailer doesn't depend on genre as much as a book does.

I say there's good movies, REALLY good movies, shitty movies, and then there is everything else.

Not really helpful at all. But that's how I view things.
