The old one hasn't died quite yet, but it is hovering on the brink of death. We know it's only a matter of time.

ooh... very fancy. clock and everything.

when mine died recently I had to go with the bargain one - but as long as it brews, I don't care.

Of course, it also had a different filter type than the old one - which never fails, because I had extra filters.

DeleyanLee

Since we're off on a coffee tangent at the moment, may I have a moment to rant?

At work, my boss brought in a coffee make with one of those "gold filters" that doesn't need a paper filter. She thinks it makes superior coffee.

Now, I'm not a coffee afficiando by a long stretch, but I have to say that I hate this coffee maker. With a passion.

1. There's no filter, so it's take out gold filter and beat the thing against the side of a trash can to get the old grounds out. Then it's rinse the gold filter to get the fine grounds off it, which puts grounds down the non-disposal drain, which clogs up the drain about 5 times a year. All-in-all it's really disgusting.

2. Even when the filter is newly rinsed/cleaned, there's a--the best way to describe it is a scum in the coffee that clings to the cup after it's been drunk. You don't notice it when you're drinking, but afterward, there's this thin layer of ewww wherever the coffee's touched.

It scares me that she thinks this makes superior coffee, or am I just a real coffee cretin and miss the point?

slcboston
11-07-2009, 12:07 AM
nope... I had that problem myself with those kind of filters. Mostly it was getting it clean enough.

As for the scum, might trying cleaning the inside of the machine. Running it sans grounds, and sometimes i think with a little vinegar (not sure of that) supposedly helps.

I use paper filters, and would compost them if I had the option.

DeleyanLee
11-07-2009, 12:11 AM
That's what we do at home with the paper filters. Much easier all 'round.

Good morning, reppers. All this talk of french presses and grinding beans, and I'm such a savage the mancandy had to train me out of drinking instant. And I still will, if 'real' coffee inconveniences me to make more than instant will.

Also, neither Friday nor Saturday nights were Guy Fawkes. Enough with the fireworks. Every time a loud one goes off, I wonder whether we've finally done it and Fiji has decided to coup here too.

*waits for coffee to finish brewing and rues not keeping an emergency supply of instant*

Neuro, how'd the exam go?

I don't know. Okay, I hope. I was wishing they'd split it up differently, because I had 2 questions I was comfortable answering out of the answer-one-question section, and one out of the answer-two-questions section. Oh, and writing 3 essays in 2 hours sucks, and my left hand is now an atrophied claw. But it's the grade that counts. ;)

Bah humbug. An escape artist dog who'd run away for days at the slightest fizzle meant we never had fireworks when I was a kid. The only ill-effect I suffered was a flagrant disregard for the 5th of November.

I kid. Blow up the pretty lights if you want. Just accept that some tired, sick students with exams on aren't going to be happy about the sleep disturbance.

NZ's in the first time zone, so everyone is behind us. They made a big deal about us being 'the first to see the new millenium' back then, and some other country got pissed and unofficially changed timezones so they would beat us.

I am craving a donut this morning. Hubby took my car to work this morning so unless I want to take the truck (with a giant canoe strapped to the top of it) to the market, I guess I will just have to settle for cereal. It's better for me anyway.

I'm off to pack lunches and wake sleepy, uncooperative children. Wish me luck.

Good luck!

I had Raisin Bran for breakfast. I'm supposed to have a high fiber diet.

Oh, and my husband took my car to work today, too. Interesting. I think it's because his car has no radio in it and mine does.

We had a cricket in our bathroom last night. Isn't it supposed to be bad luck to kill one? My husband let him live.

I like Squiggly Boston.

Nice choice. :D

I thank you for the compliment.

I dug this one out a while back and it was the one in place before the sheep. Just felt like time.

Of course, next month will be something Christmasy.

Yes, I go all out for the holiday. You have all been warned. :D
