Evening Reppers.

We are being invaded by ants. I need to hire one of these...

http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/5039/anteateratthebutterflyf.jpg

I'm sensitive to poisons due to my asthma so we've gone the natural route. Bay leaves, organic sprays. Apparently, the natural route doesn't work that well.

Maybe I should try fire next. :flamethrower

SaraP

I'm hoping moving closer to the countryside doesn't mean an increase in critters. Btw, you do know you need to wash the surfaces they've been in to eliminate the trail they leave, right?

ZannaPerry
04-04-2011, 03:41 AM
OH MY! I'm finding ants too in my kitchen sink and the window above it. It's grosssss. I mean, I know ants aren't the worst kind of critters you can get but still.

BeatrixKiddo
04-04-2011, 03:45 AM
Yeah, we've tried cleaning every surface we can. Must be the weather. The minute it starts to warm up a new invasion starts marching in. Must have killed over thirty yesterday.

Don't worry about extra critters in the countryside Sara. There are plenty of "other" critters around to eat them. :e2brows:

Vinegar.

Or at least I almost 100 % sure it's vinegar.

Bleach works pretty well, too, as I inadvertently discovered when I had a spill to clean off the kitchen floor last summer.

Cinnamon would just have them looking for toast.

:D

DeleyanLee
04-04-2011, 06:20 PM
When I'm unemployed, my caffeine consumption goes away, usually because I make really lousy coffee (I think it's the coffee maker, but I'm not affording a new one when I'm unemployed and I don't think about it when I'm working 'cause I get good coffee out). So unless we go out, I don't have or think about coffee.

Weird, huh?

slcboston
04-04-2011, 06:22 PM
You know, a small, single (or two) cup french press is very, very inexpensive. Good way to make just one, decent cup of coffee.

:Coffee:

though if you don't need it, I suppose - and I can't believe I'm saying this - you're doing just as well to go without it then.

DeleyanLee
04-04-2011, 06:26 PM
Housemate has a French press. I've had a cup of the slop that comes out of it. Once. If that's a guarantee of a really good cuppa, then she doesn't know how to work the thing. Either that or I have even more screwed up taste buds than I think I do. *shrug*

slcboston
04-04-2011, 06:31 PM
I'm going to say it might be a combination of both. It is possible to screw up making coffee in a French press... but you have to work at it. Does help to start with good coffee, though. So it might also depend on what you were brewing in the first place.

Invite me over for French toast and I'll help you out with your coffee situation.

:D

DeleyanLee
04-04-2011, 06:42 PM
Any time, Bos. Any time.

We even get our eggs fresh from a local farm. By the time you get here, we might be baking our own bread. Now that I've got the time, baking bread is great fun. Just need to get the right pans and find where the good rising spot is in this house. :D

DeleyanLee

As far as I know, espresso is a type of coffee. French press is a way of brewing coffee, but I could be wrong. I've never had espresso.

ZannaPerry
04-04-2011, 07:32 PM
Silly question...

but how do you know if a coffee is really really good? I've had my share of really good coffee but... I can never tell a difference. Maybe because I pack mine with creamer.

DeleyanLee
04-04-2011, 07:38 PM
I don't have taste buds, so it's basically down to "did I enjoy drinking it?" for me. Those who can sense all the subtleties I hear that food has will probably be able to get into more detail than I can.

Unless it's burnt, of course. Burnt coffee (either the beans or the drink) is just BAD. Even I can taste that.

ZannaPerry
04-04-2011, 08:02 PM

There was a time when total strangers would unburden themselves to me. I hated catching the bus to work because even having earphones didn't deter them. People still ask me directions and stuff, but I haven't had to hear about anyone's mother issues or sexual dysfunction for a little while now. It seems like marriage has made me less approachable. And, strangely, people have stopped crossing the street to avoid walking too close to Mr Me, so it's had the opposite effect on his approachability. Maybe we're heading for some kind of equilibrium between my approachability and his unapproachability.

I know it's not nice to do this, but I need lots of reps.

I mean, I get them naturally, as I am a nice person and occasionally amusing and most people enjoy me... I say that with no arrogance at all. I mean, I'm not classy at all, so I need reps.

Think.... "a wild David Hasselhoff appears" kind of needing reps. For that reason, tho not exactly that, and I won't say the real reason as that would make me even less classy.

Thank you for understanding.

and have some castle cake!

DeleyanLee
04-07-2011, 05:06 AM
Carbs take longer to digest, so it makes you sleepy, IIRC.

FWIW, turkey only makes you sleeping if you eat it with lots of carbs. That's why most Thanksgiving Day (US) meals mess with you.

Of course, in my house, doing that to people only guarantees that guests will sleep through the hated football games that come on after dinner. :evil

DeleyanLee
04-08-2011, 02:53 AM
Thanks to Milly, Sara and Bos for the sudden tonnage of reppies!

But the winner is Bos.

I will reppie ban m'self on the morrow when my reppie slate is clear, since I went on a five page reppie spree today.

Bos--now you've got to post a whole pile tonight so I've got something new to rep!

FYI: There is a limit on how many reppies you can give in a 24 hour period. I'm not sure how many it is (100, I think), but to reppie ban yourself means that you've hit that max.

SaraP
04-08-2011, 03:29 AM
My reps are only worth 1 point anyway. *sigh*

And what's this about reppie ban? Explain, please?

SaraP

Hmm, it's incomplete. What happens when you hit the max?

DeleyanLee
04-08-2011, 03:36 AM
A window pops up that says that you've maxed out and cannot give out any more rep points as soon as you hit the scale-icon. It comes up for about 24 hours. Gets highly annoying when it seems like it's been more than long enough and should be able to reppie again.

slcboston
04-08-2011, 05:50 AM
I will endeavor to post some tonight, but I am sure there are lots of posts of mine lurking about on the board that you haven't repped...

Which I expect to be shortened soon.

Fresh thread? A new beginning! We shall use this opportunity for good, O glorious Modly One. In your honour, we will use the purest silver to fashion a gargantuan, glistening fish, and hold our meetings in its shadow. It will symbolise your benevolence in building for us a new home, while simultaneously acting as a stern reminder of the rules by which we must abide. We shall be chaste, we shall be pure, and most of all, we shall be sensible. It is the Way of the Fish. And it will be our way.

Why are we restarting the thread? We aren't anywhere near 25K in posts yet, and I thought that was the official benchmark for new versions?
There's no true official benchmark that I know of; some rooms have threads that are well beyond 25k posts.

It's more of a judgment call for mods, which also takes into account how many high volume threads appear in their rooms. Office Party tends to generate a number of threads that accumulate posts very swiftly. Restarting them now and then helps to keep the load time to a minimum, which aids the server to perform faster, which in turn benefits everyone who logs into those discussion.

Another thing to think about is, how many people are going to start from the beginning of a thread this size and work their way all the way to the end? In this particular discussion, though I agree it has great value, I'd bet no one would ever go back more than a few pages to see what's been going on to get up to speed.

At any rate, when we start volume III of this thread, the original post (http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showpost.php?p=880900&postcount=1) and inspiration for this thread will be back on top. :)
