:Wha:

The next time I need to reach for the eye bleach (which will hopefully be awhile, since I bribed him earlier this week) I'm blaming you, Night, just so you know.

... and I have no sympathy for you with regards to whatever hideous monstrosity you might find in your reps tomorrow.

slcboston

My hair is wicked short at the moment. But that's because of the chlorine in the pool, not the humidity.

Which is probably around 0% here lately with the heat on.

Bad news is, baby's feeling worse than yesterday. Good news is, he's feeling better now than at 4:30 am. Also good news? My wearing our blinking Disney balloon as a boa appears to add roughly +25 to his feeling less crummy.

Sounds like cubical world sucks. Speaking of...I have a game called Cubeworld, there's a a little stick figure man that lives in there, if you move the game while he's drinking, it spills on him and if you turn it upside down, he falls to the ceiling. He doesn't like cubicals either. :D

Hi guys...

Today my boss-to-be humiliated me so much I almost gave up on the job. But I need it. So I'm still on training. (By the way she asked us to make questions, I did and she called me nosy.) I've been shivering all day with my nerves.

I have no ego, now. Zero self-esteem.

I hate her.

Who wants to hate her with me? I could use some help...

night-flyer
02-25-2011, 06:59 AM
Sorry, you had a rough day at work, Katze. You just started, I assume if you're still in training. Give it a week, maybe she just had a bad day and took it out on you. Which is stupid and no excuse, but maybe it won't be as bad as you think. I hope it goes better for you tomorrow...:Hug2:

Peeking duck.

It's a very long story, so I'll skip to the ending. We have a small whiteboard which we got for some reason. It had something to do with studying. I think maybe I was planning to put up a few Chinese and Japanese characters every couple of days as some sort of memory aid? Whatever. Anyway. What it's far more commonly used for is the occasional drawing of a duck in various situations. Last time he was rescuing a woman from a purse-snatcher. This time, he's peeking through his wing feathers.

I don't know why. Other than just because puns amuse me far more than they should.

And you know you'd miss me if I stopped posting. You'd weep quietly into your fleece, all the while pretending not to notice. But you'd notice. And be sad.

I will confess, this once and only, that it would not be the same without you. We've lost so many past "regulars" over the years that your particular brand of wit... or at least what passes for it ("peeking" duck indeed) ... would be notable by its absence.

And I will never, ever, admit to that in public again.

That is one of the drawbacks to the registry - there's no scale, and you can find yourself on it without having committed serious offense. All it takes is for something to be on the "sex" side of things.

Personally, I'd rather know where the violent offenders are.

... maybe I can find some koi to put in it.

LaurieD
02-28-2011, 09:28 PM
Where we live now, I like spring that doesn't involve snow or tornados or winds that threaten the integrity of the roof. Like last year. Last year was nice. No warnings, only watches.

Winter here is usually cold and icy, but we had a bunch of snow this year - stuff I was not sad in the least to see melt.

Summer is hot and humid. The wind dies for extended periods and the air gets stagnant. Then the winds pick up and the tornado sirens go off and my roof hangs on for dear life. Again.

Fall is usually around 70's and 80's during the day until November. When the thermometer suddenly won't go above 40.

:hi: Syn.

I talk to myself all the time, someones got to or I'd get lonely. :D

The owner of my company shared this gem yesterday:
"Two heads are better than one, even if ONE is a head of cabbage!"

Not sure if that's true, but it makes me giggle. :p

Well, well!
I am most surprised all the time I wasn't around, this thread had so little activity!
What is going with you people? Huh? HUH?

We're sparkle addicts. We can't function properly without it. :D

Wee!! My boss just called and my pitiful check has come a day early. Well, I'm off to buy food and to give the rest of it away to the bills.

I feel your pain. I had some extra money for the first time in ages, and then I had to pay it back onto my credit card for the $500 portion of my dental work last week. Then I get my paycheck today, but I still have to pay the electric and phone bill, get groceries, fill up the car with the most expensive gas in the country, etc, etc. Sigh. Where's the lottery fairy when you need her?

Ooh, the zoo is nice. I'm taking my little one there this year. Be a bigger trip for us, but it's a bigger zoo than we have here.

:D

Chicago has two zoos. Both are supposed to be lovely. I've lived here since 1993 and have not been to either. Pathetic? Yes. Enjoy your zoo trip! Some of us shall live vicariously through you.

You know, I have gone to the trouble to find a nice, perfectly acceptable doesn't-look-at-all-like-it's-the-victim-of-a-bad-lobotomy drooling smiley.

I even used it on the previous page.

You are welcome to borrow it.

Encouraged, even.

:D

We have those kind of pastries, here, too. (Not everything good is just in Portugal, you know.) And yes, they are *most* yummy.

I never made it to the ones in Chicago when I was there. I've been to the National Zoo in DC, which was very nice, as well as the one in Pittsburgh (even if it has been a while). Supposedly Cleveland - also within travel distance for me - is also quite nice.

Boston's zoo was a little underwhelming. There are two there, and I don't know how they are in Chicago but in Boston they were divided by geographic zones. Africa/Asia in one, the Americas in the other. (I think Australia was lumped in with the first one.) Wasn't a bad zoo, but other than size it wasn't really any better than my local one here.

Oh, I know. I've posted a few times about all the yummy stuff I miss from the US. When it comes to pastry and desserts though, we do have some incredibly yummy stuff. I'm reminded of the time hubby and I were at a fancy restaurant and the maitre d' was explaining the desserts on the cart to an old british couple:

"This is a dessert made with sugar, flour and eggs. This one is made with eggs, sugar and flour. And this is a dessert made with flour, sugar and eggs."

You know, I've noticed desserts often don't sound so great when they're described as a list of ingredients. Who would expect a baked glob of egg whites, caster sugar and vinegar to be a popular enough dessert that NZ and Australia squabble over who 'invented' it?

I'm almost afraid to ask what dessert that might be.

Caster sugar? Vinegar?

In a dessert?

Actually, I don't want dessert.

I'd like another glass of wine.

Fear not, gentle Del. It's the (mostly) harmless pavlova (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavlova_(food)).

I actually don't much care for it, to be honest. I find it's a giant mound of over-sweetness.

So, I just got a call from the bank lady that is dealing with our loan. The last stuff that needed approval has come through. Monday morning I'm taking the final stuff over to the agency so they can - finally - set up the date to sign the papers with the current owner. :snoopy:

:hooray: Congrats Sara! :hooray:

 my computer is being stupid and won't show me the pic...the spinny wheel just keeps turning and turning. But if it's a mound of sweet, don't let the sparkly unicorn near it...:D

I have to admit--I'm a more than a little leery of anything that Wikipedia decides it has to label as (food) though.

It does look yummy, though I'm more used to desserts with egg yolks on them. Traditional portuguese desserts use a lot of them. One particular recipe calls for 30 yolks.

And I do not get a bit crazy when I get into the sugar. Just... a little happier. :D

Morning Reppers.

So, next tuesday is Carnaval (Mardi Gras), which is our big dress-up party. Kidlets will have a few days off school, which means today is the last day before Carnaval, which in turn means they got to go to school all dressed up. The big kidlet went as a witch, the little one as a flamenco dancer. Mommy got to do their make-up which means they both look absolutely awesome. :D

well, we just completed our second weekend of Mardi Gras festivities here....and if I slip on another pair of beads that my kids have strewn across my wooden floors again I might just lose it

:)

we had tons of fun though, ended last night (for my family anyways) with fireworks at the beach with zydeco music blaring behind us...all of us lounging in beach chairs in the sand

:e2woo:

I need a weekend to REST now!
