Hiya Reppers.

I spent the whole day sleeping, trying to avoid coming down with something big. Well, most of the day, I did have morning school duty, but after that it was bed, I was totally knackered. It seems to have worked, I feel much better now. Only it's past 1am. What else is a girl to do but wander around AW? ;)

What else is a girl to do but wander around AW?

You could give my dog a bath. :D

I think she made a new little friend while she was outside this evening. When the kids let her in, she came running into my room, and my eyes started to water almost immediately.

Time to find the tomato juice. http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Animals/3d-skunk-flower.gif

Sheesh, the last part of the list sounds really scary. But, yeah, us too. No tigers or bears, though, except in the zoo. We do have bobcats, coyotes, fox, armadillos, raccoons, and who knows what else running around here. A lot of rattlers.

ugh. I hate that feeling of being 'drained' of all energy--mental and physical. Hope it works out for you.

That feeling is one of the things I miss about having a physical job. I could work all day and drain myself physically, but still have the mental energy to do things at home later on.

Now, I'm draining myself mentally and it leaves nothing leftover at the end of the day.

Good afternoon reppers. I spent the morning doula'ing and will probably spend the afternoon house'ing.

My mommy (cuz she's the bestest!) has been house'ing while watching my kiddos today.

Anyway, GNO (girl's night out) has been rescheduled for tonight in honor of the reason for today's court date and the fact that we finally have a new bar in town that's not over-run with twenty year olds. I hope it wasn't anything serious, in my experience kids often act up at least a few times at school, it's usually blown out of proportion just because it happens there. Maybe it was just a one time thing that can be resolved easily. :)

Nothing super serious. She's bossy, which we know and we've been working on addressing. She's a bit of a control freak.

But it seems she has also taken to shoving the other kids out of the way when they get in line so that she can be next to whoever it is that she wants to be close to that day.

Good luck TJ.

I thought we'd have problems like that with my Li'l Dude. When he was 3 he put a 5 yro in a head lock and dragged him to the ground - because Li'l Dude wanted the blue chair the 5 yro was sitting on. We didn't/don't watch wrestling or anything even close to it - I had/have no idea where he learned that but I was sure it was the beginning of a long road of bullying/harassing other kids.

It wasn't.

Preschool, first grade, and now second grade, his teachers have all commented on how compassionate he is. If a kid falls down, he's the first one there to ask if they're ok. (Kindergarten he made the teacher nuts climbing things and jumping off of them)

TJ, with a new baby taking away some of the already split attention it's not unusual for one of the other kids to act out. Have a little talk with her and try to carve out ten or fifteen minutes of your time for only her. I don't know how old she is but, heck, if she's young enough--get some 'play' fingernail polish and do her nails or something 'girly'. Just a few minutes of undivided attention can do wonders.

Birthday present (http://gifts.barnesandnoble.com/Toys-games/HARRY-POTTER-CHESS/e/027084858181)for Li'l Dude. He turned 8 yesterday, family/just us party is tomorrow.

Li'l Dude had a set on his Christmas/Birthday wish list and before Christmas I'd seen this at Toys R Us and like a complete ditz, I decided to wait and get it/give it to him for his birthday. Now it has disappeared from Toys R Us's website. Local B&N list it as in stock, but a couple phone calls prove it isn't.

Finally, I called the local Toys R Us's and found one.

Finally.

And the sales woman I spoke with said she had several and had brought them up to the service desk - hubs won't even have to look for it when he runs in with Ms. Girl to do birthday shopping. :D

A set like he asked for AND it's HP - perfect. :D

It's a mutant flesh-eating killer sheep, from the movie Black Sheep. Which, despite being intended at least as much as a comedy as it was a horror, is almost always shelved in the horror section. Because nothing scares the shit out of New Zealanders more than the idea of all our sheep turning into mutant flesh-eating killers.

Two words for keeping "the bugs" away: allergy shots and neti pots. Ever since I started shots several years ago, I never get sick anymore, ever. I can't even remember the last time I had a cold. My doc said too many folks mistake allergies for cold or flu symptoms. They get on antibiotics over and over again. Then they get on allergy shots, the sinus infections, chronic coughes, irritated eyes, etc, stop. No more antibiotics.

I also use a neti pot. Put a little saline solution in that, use it once a week to clean out your sinuses. Works wonders for chronic sinus congestion. They sell 'em at the local drug store. (They look like little plastic tea pots) They take a bit to get used to since you have to tilt your head to let the saline solution run through your nose, but I swear by 'em.

Li'l Dude loved his chess set and hits anyone and everyone up for a game all day long. :D

We cashed in credit card points for a gift card to a place that sends live lobster through the mail - this was supposed to be my mother-in-law's Christmas present. The card finally arrived today (five weeks after we requested it) and we're finally sending her her present. Two live lobster. :D

I think it'll be great. I'd love to get a package that says "eat me."

Well, I do write the stories darkly. ;)

But tisn't voluntary.

Tis forced by the schmucks that decided school should start at 8 am. If my local public school would actually pay for quality teachers and supplies instead of football carp, then I wouldn't have to pay for private school 30 miles away and have to leave my house at 7 to reach school through intensely stupid morning rush hour traffic to get there by 7:45, when the classroom doors open.

I have to do yoga or I get so stiff I can't sit at my desk.

As you can see, this is all my local public school's fault.

Hard to get rid of is right, NF. This thing has been lingering since October. My GP has run out of ideas, and now all I can do is for an appointment with an ENT specialist. Which might be a very long time, considering I've been waiting for a rheumatologist since something like June or July. :tongue

I'm sure I'm safe. I doubt cray's going to hug the giant ball of snot.

If he does, he might want to consider one of those baby burping towel things people put on their shoulders. You know, like regular towels, only smaller and probably more expensive.

I already miss this place, even if we really really had to move. :(

Maybe you'll love the new place even more, once you find it. Didn't you say that you looked at a house that you really liked?

SaraP
01-15-2011, 08:29 AM
Yeah - and I am excited about moving. The house we liked is quite affordable, has twice the area we have now and an extra room.

Still. This was my very first house. We've been here almost 10 years. This is where I lived through my pregnancies and babyhoods. It's kinda weird to think we'll be leaving soon. :(

:(

Leaving a place that you've lived in for so long is sad. Especially if you or your kids grew up there. Take pictures of the rooms and marks on the walls, etc. make a scrap book out of them with notes about how something happened in each room that is a special memory. That way you can kind of take it with you. Maybe that will help a little. :Hug2:

I wouldn't mind going house-hunting...

Of course, it would have to be strictly catch-and-release on my end, at least for the foreseeable future.

Afternoon, reppers.

In other, suckier news, I think my sinus infection may be back. Not that it went away properly. *grumbles and whines*

http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/7084/netipot.jpg

Seriously, it works. If you have chronic sinus infections, you may have to use it every day for awhile to get some relief. Also, there are saline "sprays" you can buy at the drugstore. However, the reason the neti pot works so well is you have to combine very warm water with the saline solution. The combo of the warm water and the solution is what reduces the inflammation in the sinuses and helps clean them of any bacteria, etc.

Which might be a very long time, considering I've been waiting for a rheumatologist since something like June or July. :tongue

An ENT doc is a good idea but an allergist might be helpful too. Have you ever been allergy tested? I used to get sinus infections all the time. I started getting allergy shots, and the infections stopped. An allergist may also be able to recommend a newer type of anti-histamine that helps (if you're not on one already) Some folks do well on them, some folks don't get much relief. It just depends.

Do you notice if the symptoms get worse at work or where you live in certain rooms? Some folks are especially sensitive to molds, dust, pet dander, air fresheners (room deodorizers), scented candles, cleaning solutions, sanitizers, certain foods, perfumes, colognes, certain fabrics, etc. There are so many "types" of things that can cause chronic sinus infections. Or, certain times of the year are bad depending on what types of pollen, grasses, etc, you might be allergic to. An allergy test by an allergist can help narrow that down for you if you've never been tested.

Too many folks go on antibiotics which helps for awhile, but that doesn't treat the source of the problem and the sinus infections keep coming back. Some folks try humidifiers but they grow mold and that can make the problem worse. You might also benefit from a good air purifier (cleaner) with a good HEPA filter in your home. Look for one that has a HEPA filter of the highest filtering capacity possible. I also used to order products from a catalog specifically for folks with allergies, asthma (I have asthma on top of the allergies). If you want the link for it, let me know and I'll PM it to you. I haven't ordered from them for awhile but you might find some stuff in there catalog helpful. (No spam, I swear! Just a catalog I used to order from years ago)

Also, you can buy many "whole-house" HEPA air cleaners at local hardware stores or even regular stores in the appliance/home sections now for a little over $100. They also have smaller ones under $100 for at work or to clean just a room you're in. Another thing is if you have forced air heat, remember to change out your furnace filter at least every three months. A dirty furnace filter blows out extra dust into the air.

Wear a dusk mask when you clean to reduce dust exposure. Wash your sheets and pillow cases in hot water to kill the dust mites. it's not the dust we react to. It's the miniature poo the mites leave behind. The more mites, the more poo. I also encase my pillow and mattress in vinyl zipper cases (you can find them at the store in the bedding sections). That helps reduce mite exposure. Some folks are horribly sensitive to dust and mold but don't realize that's causing their symptoms since we live with so much dust everywhere every day.

If you have any questions about this kind of stuff (if you're not familiar with things I've mentioned above) don't hesitate to ask me. I've done so much research on things that can cause sinus infections due to my own allergies and asthma over the years, that I'm a walking encyclopedia of info. (I should go into medical school...ha!) I've also found natural solutions that help me (not just the allergy shots), like changing my diet, etc. A lot of folks don't realize it may be something where they live, or where they work that keeps triggering the infections. Their immune systems are just more sensitive to certain things and that creates chronic inflammation in various parts of the body.

Sorry, rambling. I like giving folks medical advice that I feel might truly help since I've had so many health issues myself over the years. I hate to see folks suffer with the same things if I can help them somehow.

Hope you feel better soon. *hugs*

Thanks, Beatrix. :Hug2: That's a mountain of info.

The first section I've already been doing. Doctors here often won't prescribe antibiotics for a sinus infection until it's gone on for at least 4 weeks. I get terrible hayfever, so I know a lot of what triggers my allergies just from that. (For example, thank you, department stores who like to put their perfume department right at the entry/exit.) And I'm on the waiting list for an allergist too. I leave the country around the end of this coming November. My husband and I have bets on whether I've actually had an appointment for each of the three specialists I'm waiting for. ;)

I think I'll look into the air filter thing though. That's something I hadn't thought of.

I can see the headlines...

Imagine what the report would be if they found your horror stories. It'd go from mysterious accident to possible satanic ritual due to the corruption of heavy metal music and the Saw movies or something.

No problem. :) I hope you get a good allergist. It's just a shame there are so many things can trigger sinus issues. Allergies and asthma seem to be a global health issue, unfortunately. Asthma rates are exploding here and scientists can't figure out why. Almost everyone I work with has some kind of allergy issue.

Oh well, 'tis life! *happy thoughts, happy thoughts, puppies and kittens*
