Hah! I remember those last days...sitting in my chair, reared back because I couldn't bend over for the huge protuberance that used to be my belly and staring at it in disgust.

I knew I would be sleep deprived for ages when that baby arrived, but by now I couldn't find a comfortable way to sleep, so what was the difference? And oh, the ability to sleep on my stomach again...that was nice. :D

Hello ladies! :D

DeleyanLee
08-23-2010, 06:00 PM
Heya, Sadron!

Sometimes you just look at the kid and know what the right name is too. Sometimes I regret going with the name we'd picked out for my son and not going with the name that he "looked" like. Now that he's an adult and is thinking about changing his name (chip off the old block), I really regret it.

tjwriter
08-23-2010, 06:04 PM
Yeah, and the middle name is the one that keeps on sticking in my mind, but my dad and my brother both go by nicknames derived from their middle names, so that's not that unusual for me.

ETA: And no name is ever final until I meet my babies, but so far my gut has not been wrong. Both of the girls are spot on for their names.

We'll see.

Morning, sadron!

DeleyanLee

Housemate comes home tonight. Thank all the gods who ever were, are and will be. I really really really hate animals after the weekend. Seriously. Especially her all-too-spoiled dogs. If I have to clean up one more "protest" mess tonight, she might come back to hounds being missing.

Next time she goes away, she's taking them with her. I'm not paid enough to put up with all their BS.

Yeah, I'm a little cranky this morning. Sorry.

DeleyanLee
08-23-2010, 08:09 PM
I had back labor with both my kids. I didn't think it was so bad, honestly. But, then, I have a high pain tolerance. With my first, I was told that I'd been in labor for about 2 days before I went in, but never noticed it until the last 5 hours and then my ex still didn't believe I was in labor. With my second, I didn't notice until about an hour or so before he was born. I'm probably weird, though.

Time for lunch. I don't want the leftovers I brought. *sigh*

tjwriter

Morning dearies!

I know, I haven't been here for ages, I've been moping. But the impass has ended on one front at least - I have now bought my dream pad (as can be seen in the Royalty Thread). Well when I say pad, I mean block of land. Initially we will be living in a bus.

Then a barn. :D
But it will be a very nice barn, fully insulated, double glazed, yadda yadda yadda.

Now if only our buyers would sell their house, we might actually be able to move there...

Hope all is well, hope the pain and preggy misery is over soon, tj!

DeleyanLee
08-25-2010, 06:26 PM
I had a friend who raised llamas for their wool. Great animals. She taught me and my kids how to introduce ourselves to them and how to behave so they generally won't bite.

When my daughter went to college her first year, a Big Wig alum connected to her dorm held a welcome party for all the freshmen (this is an annual BIG event for the college). Anyway, he also had llamas on the property and his favorite llamas were allowed to wander much of the party area--which freaked a lot of the kids out. My daughter got BIG kudos and a lot of positive response from this guy because she knew how to deal with the llamas and took some of the skiddish kids in hand and helped them out. He wrote her a glowing recommendation and got her a scholarship for her junior year.

Never know when the little weirdities of life will come in helpful, y'know?

btw - if my sinuses are stuffed and I'm sneezing a lot but not coughing or any other cold symptoms.... is it a cold, or is there finally something I'm allergic to?

Sounds to me like it's just a sinus thing and might not have anything to do with allergies. That can happen, y'know.

But since most of the OTC medicines for sinus also include stuff for allergies, you're covered. I prefer the generic brand for Tylenol Sinus that's red, white and green colored, personally. Kicks the stuff right out of my sinuses for about $2 a box at CVS.

I don't think I have any of that in the house - and I don't have my car at the moment. I do have some allergy meds in the house, and some cold medicine. One of those ought to at least relieve the pressure and the nose, right?

DeleyanLee

That's cool. :)

Llamas are getting quite popular in Germany. There are several owners who offer guided hiking trips where the llamas will carry your baggage. Those include lessons on how to treat the animals, of course.

slcboston
08-25-2010, 07:19 PM
I would have though llamas were like any other livestock. You just have to be nice and move in non-threatening ways.

I'd find the opportunity to touch one to be something I wouldn't pass up. But I'm weird like that. I still pet the sheep and goats and stuff in the petting zoo, and took the opportunity to pet the kangaroo last weekend.

Steam and fluids for your sinuses, Boston, if you don't have a decongestant.

If anyone's curious, the way you introduce yourself to a llama (or a camel for that matter) is to blow up its nose. Literally. And they'll blow back at you. They identify individuals by that scent.

Personally, I like that better than having the critter stick their face in my crotch.

No elephants here at all, anymore. Local zoo used to have them, but that was back before anyone started really caring about how much space the animals have. While I kind of miss having the elephants here, I have to say they turned it into a very nice orangutan habitat, and I'd rather have that than have elephants crowded into a too-small space.

Though if they ever expand the African animals section, maybe they could bring the elephants back...

DeleyanLee

Hmmm. Just realized that I've been here four years and I don't even know where the zoo is. Or the aquarium. I passed the aviary once, and I wasn't even lost. I should at least know where they are, even if I don't go there.

Weekend won't be here until I put work away and get the pizza started. Then it's the weekend - which will consist this week of working a bit extra and running my Ms. Girl to a b-day party, keeping Li'l Dude entertained at the ice cream shop during said birthday (10 yro girls painting pottery - not exactly my 7 yro little guy's scene) until my hubs gets out of work to pick him up. Then I'll take my happy laptop down a little further to a coffee shop to enjoy a little caffiene and see where I left my stories last week and what's willing to go further until the party's over.

I'm kinda looking forward to it actually.

It was so funny, the first time I caught myself ordering a half-pound of jumbo and an pound of isleys at jynt iggle. I giggled myself silly the rest of the morning.

Gives me so much gas, there ain't a gumband strong enough to keep it in. Yunz don't know what I'm talking 'bout if you've never had an arn, warm or cold.

Translated into standard Midwestern English:
So, I was watching the Steelers (Pittsburgh's damned fine pro football team) play and ate an Isley's (chipped-chopped ham) sandwich first, then followed it with a fried jumbo bologna sandwich. Bob brought a 6-pack of Iron City beer, but I don't touch that stuff. Gives me so much gas, there's a rubber band strong enough to keep it in. You (plural) don't know what I'm talking about if you've never had an Iron City beer, warm or cold.

Oh god...here we go with the foreign accents again. Speak mid-western, please. :)

Errr...Pittsburgh IS part the mid-west, m'dear. It's on the correct side of both mountain ranges for it. :D

But...but...it's East mid-west. That doesn't count.

See.

*flourishes map of the US*

This part here--where the deer and the antelope attempt to kill people on a regular basis. Where cattle out-number humans? This is where the 'People With No Accent' settled. History shows they had a strange fear of dialects, (and sex and well, fun in general, but that's another story altogether).

True, that. ;)

Where the cattle out-number people is the WEST, dearheart, not the MID-West (which means it's in the middle between the west and the east and neither one of them wanted it). :tongue

And, yes, I totally believe that's fact. Makes many things make a whole pile more sense.

Don't yunz'all agree? :D
(that's Southern Pittsburgh LOL!)

I'm in the West?

Not the everyday, boring mid-west?

Whoo-hoo!

sorry, couldn't keep a straight face for that one

:tongue

Count the big rings, darling, and then keep laughing. :D

Besides--my previous home team was the Detroit Lions. The Stillers are definitely an upgrade.

I watched "State of Play" with Ben Affleck and Russell Crowe the other day, in which Crowe and Affleck supposedly both come from Pittsburgh. Crowe even calls Affleck "Sliberty" as a nickname

:D

Heh. IIRC, they shot part of that movie down the street from where I work. I saw him whilst hunting the wild kibble several times. It was very interesting. Considering what he has to do to cover his native Aussie accent, I'm not surprised if he picked up the Pgh one. Can't be worse than some of the ones he's had to do over the years.

the hell you say. PA is a mid-Atlantic state.

Midwest does not start until Ohio. Which is, you know, 30 miles thattaway. Not here. No, definitely not the Mid-West here.

(and pfft, rings, whatever. A few years of glory to intersperse with the years of suckitude means nothing. And come on, they got their pre-season butts handed to them by fresh out of the draft college boy Tebow, for pity's sake)

(also, I'd take Detroit over Cleveland these past few years, actually...)

But the Steelers do have THE coolest logo in Football. :D

I honestly don't get a rat's patoot about sports--any sports. They could all go away and the only reason I'd notice is because people would be quiet at bus stops and restuarants and maybe bars would get rid of the blasted TVs always in your face and distracting people you want to talk to.

That would be a nice change, actually--but I don't think it'll happen.

Well, I can kind of understand that. You live in a town that's as sports-nutty as Pittsburgh (or Boston) and if you aren't a rabid fan of the home teams it can get kind of....

overwhelming....

and annoying...

and you start to wonder if people have anything else to discuss in town.
