Yeah, but Greece isn't an island. Though they have islands--but they're far too tropical for me to consider buying and settling on. Me and sun just don't cut it.

I am hoping we'll be able to get up to my step-father's place for fireworks, maybe into town earlier in the day for the parade. The deck of the house where I grew up is one of the best places in town to watch the fireworks, because it's so high up on the ridge overlooking the city.

It's come to that.

I temped for a place that did placements exclusively for where my dad works and I interned for that company in college. But I didn't get the job just because of him (I'm sure it helped). The only time I was compared to him was when I made the coffee. :D

LaurieD

I don't think I've ever had a job I loved, loved, loved.

My nursing career started to lose its shine about 3 years into it and was completely tarnished by the time I left it, leaving a trail of 8 jobs in my wake. But it was never a love, love, love.

This job... well... its flexibility makes it invaluable but that's about it.

But then again, whenever anyone asked what I wanted to do when I grew up when I was a kid, my answer was always "read"

I am, though my last interview was far too long ago. Best advice is to be prepared. Know something about the company you are interviewing with. Ask questions, be early (not too early, say 15 mins which is what the Air Force drilled into my head), etc.

If you've been to one, you've been to 'em all. Mostly. That one I had where the company was run by Scientologists was a little different....

Surely somewhere is a place you could google for 'interviewing techniques' that might be helpful or at least give you an idea of some of the angles and questions that might be used. Business/corporate types are sheepul, they tend to follow the same guidelines and flock to the same philosophies. Whatever the current 'hot' idea is, they will be all over that. :)

Since I've heard 'homicidal rampage' is the answer far less frequently than it should be, take a few deep breaths. People are so very stupid. But just think about how much cleverer you look standing next to them. Bask in the glow of being smarter and far less aggravating.

That's what got me through my time working in a stupormarket.

Or imagine a world where setting fire to stupid, aggravating people is just what you do. That's been known to help me too.

They all think I'm the crazy one, though. Yes, I can accept change when there's nothing I can do about. Yes, I'll still complain about the fundamental deficits of the inferior new product we have to use.

But, and a big BUT here, it does the crazy here no good to bitch and moan and complain and absolutely refuse to learn how to use the new software because that would require them to get over themselves or some such nonsense.

I guess I'm just not overly resistant to change. Or at least change I cannot help.

Neurotic
06-04-2010, 01:18 AM
Heh. That kind of reminds me of the place I worked over the summer. Their computers had been changed over to a 'new' system a few years ago, and still a lot of them refused to just get over it and learn how to use the new one properly.

To make matters worse, they're bringing in a new one some time this year. Perhaps once that's up and running, people will start reminiscing fondly about the one they had?

But you're right, you know. It does no good to bitch and moan. The system is unlikely to be rolled back just because people don't like it. Sometimes you have to make the most of things.

So I don't think you're the crazy one. Although to be honest, a lot of people would find that less than comforting, coming from me. ;)

I said I'd never had one (I don't do malls). They took this as an excuse to scurry off and get me one.

So I tried it. Well, less than half of it. I was underwhelmed. It was exactly everything that I hate about cinnamon rolls.

They never brought me another Cinnabon. I was happy.

rarely have so many people been competing for so few jobs...

Yeah, seconded. My local area isn't much for jobs in my field, but I tell myself the advantage here is the applicant pool is smaller. I could search further afield in bigger markets, but I know my resume doesn't stack up. I got my last job bcs the employer was willing to take a chance, give me the opportunity to learn and improve my potential.

I don't think that's going to happen in this market.

summer colds are the worst. I took a nap yesterday, if you can call nearly three hours a nap? Slept like a log last night and still fought sinus pain and a continual drip today. At least I felt I would live today. Yesterday, it was debatable. Sorry Del and Bos. I didn't mean to pass it around!

There's no mistaking my dates. I know exactly when we had our birth control usage FAIL. Summer will suck big ones. It looks to be very hot and very humid around here this year.

And quoting myself from elsewhere because I don't feel like typing it again:

I'm having a day. My husband's grandmother gave my daughters a ride from her house to my house (four blocks) while my husband's cousin was babysitting them the other night. She told my eldest to lie to me about the ride because she didn't have carseats.

While I'm not thrilled with her driving my kids around without carseats, it was in a very secluded area and a very short distance. I am not happy about it, but would not have blown a gasket.

However, I'm seeing red over the fact that she told my daughter to lie to me! I don't have any clue what is wrong with my husband's family other than they are crazy. Freakin nuts!

It took until today for my mom to get the truth out, but my daughter slipped up when she told the lie, so I knew.

The husband's mother has also tried to get my daughter to hide the truth from me before as well.

I took a tylenol (I'm only allowed one at a time) and I don't feel so hot. But fever is a big deal in pregnancy, so I'll have to monitor myself closely.

I don't know what this, unless it's some sort of virus or something. I really don't want to spend my weekend in triage being monitored. It's not my idea of a good time.

That's not even good enough to qualify as a bad time in my book.

Hope it all works out well for you.

You have fun doing that. I'm sitting here stuffed after having a late breakfast of sausage, fresh fruit, and Texas toast. I slathered my toast in apple butter. Yum!

We went out for breakfast and I had eggs benedict. I figure I only get eggs once a week, so screw the cholestrol.

I think the big deal over cholesterol in food is overrated. So long as it's part of a balance diet, it's fine in moderation.

But that's just me and I haven't had my cholesterol checked in ages.

Considering that 'good' and 'bad' cholesterol are fairly recent discoveries, I wonder what else we'll find in the future about nutrition.

Everything causes cancer/high cholesterol/extra limbs in white rats. This is my working theory.

when will they figure out that white rats cause other white rats?

... I kinda hope they have that figured out already. If the scientists don't have the basic mechanics of *that* understood.... well, it doesn't leave you with a lot of faith in the rest of their discoveries.

... Also I'm having flashbacks to "The Secret of NIMH" at the moment....

I was told I have high cholesterol. I didn't want to start taking prescription drugs so I'm taking an Omega 3 Fish Oil tablet once a day. We'll see if it works!

I don't want to give up eating the foods I like.

I dunno. I exercise, I eat right, I watch my weight, etc....

Beyond that, if I have to start giving up foods I might wonder what the heck's the point, you know?

Everything in moderation is my philosophy, and hopefully in another twenty years it'll still be serving me well. But right now I'm just not going to worry about it.

... Other than pickles. Which for some reason I can no longer eat, and which depresses me.
