I remember my parents watching the original "Star Trek" on TV and I'd peek around Mom's chair at the monsters. Funny to think that I found them so scary back then.

Funny. The monsters on ST didn't bother me. The theme music to Hogan's Heroes scared me silly for years, though. Don't understand why now.

I'm not sure I've ever been frightened enough of a movie character to cry. Even Chucky, who creeps me out purely by virtue of being a doll that moves around on his own. There seems to be some kind of disconnect, for me, between stuff I see on a screen and the fears I have. Like Arachnaphobia. I remember watching that with a friend who was also horribly afraid of spiders. She was freaking out, and I was fine. In fact, at one point I got bored and brushed her leg with one of my slippers just to see what would happen.

That was much more interesting than the movie. :evil

Back in the misty depths of time, we went to see the movie Jaws when it first came out. My sister decided to read the book immediately afterwards.

So she sprawled out on my parents' bed, reading. She'd just gotten to the point where the shark nibbled on the first girl's foot--

--and the puppy licked her foot just at that moment.

My mom was outside on the porch. I was in the kitchen. All we knew was that my sister SCREAMED! and the puppy ran out of the bedroom, leaving a yellow trail behind.

05-09-2010, 09:48 PM
It's one of the reasons why I really appreciate Romance writers NOT giving me a very distinct description of the hero (or heroine, for that matter). That way, I can imagine exactly what I think is hawt and be happy. Especially in erotic stories.

Synonym
05-09-2010, 10:19 PM
Yes. Good point. I try to keep it very sketchy. Too many times I've read a story that tediously goes into minute detail about every aspect of their appearance and ended up thinking, "eww". Height, general coloring and perhaps a mention of something noteworthy or distinguishing that plays into the storyline. That's it, the rest can be filled by the reader's imagination. Same with the female character, of course. If you can't imagine yourself 'in the picture'--well it's a lot tougher to fall into the story. :D

DeleyanLee
05-09-2010, 10:23 PM
Interesting. I've never imagined myself as the heroine of a Romance story. I just want her to not be TSTL or otherwise a complete twit so she deserves him. Nothing ruins a Romance for me faster than having a really fantastic, sexy hero and knowing that he's going to have to be happy with this raving twit at the end of the book. Or is that just me?

Synonym

Nothing ruins a Romance for me faster than having a really fantastic, sexy hero and knowing that he's going to have to be happy with this raving twit at the end of the book. Or is that just me?

This is why I started writing my own stuff. Sick of stupid, vapid twits. Someone should line them up and...well, I really should calm down. *deep breath* Ah, that's better.

And wouldn't an erotic story be even better if you could imagine yourself 'in' the story?

slcboston
05-11-2010, 08:07 PM
Well, yes - that's part of the technical challenge. Hence I said, "modified."

Because you don't want it melting the straw or burning your mouth, yet using iced coffee would be a complete cheat. Besides, for some reason iced coffee just never feels like it carries quite the same kick to me. I realize this is completely in my head - unless caffeine has some sort of heat-induced qualities - but there you have it.

And yes, I'm willing to admit a large portion of the effect is somewhat psychological.

And I don't care.

The iced coffee has that thing called ice that tends to melt and water down beverages, leading to a less potent drink.

Tip the couch over while he's sitting on it. If he doesn't move, leave him there.

Thanks everyone. I'm just tired. Pregnancy is tiring anyway and not sleeping makes it much more so.

My mom and I have been pondering theories. She went to the doctor on Friday because we thought she might be sick like her sister. She got an antibiotic, but it's not helped a lick and likely made her tummy feel worse. It's likely she's teething as I can feel a nice lump in at least one location. My mom caught her crying on the floor grabbing at her legs, so we wonder if she's also having growing pains.

I'm guessing it's some perfect trifecta of various things all culminating into one meltdowns throughout the day.

DeleyanLee
05-12-2010, 05:31 PM
The average person has 5-6 sessions of REM and dreams in a night's sleep. The unusual thing is remembering them as distinct, different dreams. ;)

Slept really good last night too, but I think I'm coming down with the nasty cold that's going around the office so that would explain it. I only sleep really well when I'm about to be seriously sick. At least now I know what I'm doing for the weekend. LOL!

tjwriter

Since I'm pregnant, I usually dream, wake, change positions, go back to sleep. Lather, rinse repeat. Last night, I just shifted from dream to dream.

The baby was all smiles and happy this morning, so my mom and I were both happy about that. It's as wearing to her during the day as it is to me at night.

Like being asked to make changes to a document I wrote just because it's not the way my boss would have written. The changes do nothing to enhance or clarify what is already there. DeleyanLee

tjwriter

In the context of this document, there is no difference in the meaning. A file was updated in production = a file was updated in the production environment. Production is production is production in our situation.

:Soapbox:

I hate to do stupid things too. Like...every day, my boss comes to me with his whole day's schedule. He's keeping track of it in his planner, but I have to put it on his Lotus Notes Calendar. Why can't he learn to put it there himself (unless it's something I scheduled) rather than waste all this time writing it down then coming to me to put it on his electronic calendar? Ugh.

DeleyanLee
05-13-2010, 06:10 PM
I have one doctor who writes everything down in her day planner, but only puts her work-related things into her Outlook calendar (which I can access). So if she's suddenly taking time off in the middle of the day for lunch or something for her kids or whatever--it's not on her Outlook. It's blank. So if I have to schedule something for her, I can't, because I never know what she really has planned.

She just doesn't seem to grok that I don't CARE what she's doing, but if she'd just put a time block in there, it would end all the times I have to nag her about scheduling meetings or what she's doing when.

Ish.

Rough night... or morning, rather, starting at about 5 AM. Little one had an accident, first time in years and I'm not sure if it was just the insisted upon drink in the middle of the night or something else.

She got back to sleep before I did, but I had to strip the bedding, and then wash and dry her little security cloth to get it back to her ... all at 5 AM.

So, yeah, in desperate need of stimulants.

:D

Aw. Poor thing. Our Little One did that not long ago for the first time in ages - and of course when she was sleeping in our bed. But I think it was our fault b/c we hadn't made her go before she went to sleep.

Oh, yes, forgot to mention that.

:D

Yeah, this was kind of my fault, I suspect,. She woke up in the middle of the night and complained she was really thirsty, so I gave in. She's been waking up when she had to go in the middle of the night, so it never occurred to me she wouldn't this time.

Drinks are during the day from now on, though.

We haven't had any pee the bed issues in a long time. *Knocks on wood*

I really need to stop eating lunch. I always get sleepy after eating lunch.

you ARE pregnant TJ...you should be getting sleepy all the time...and eating all the time...and...man do I miss being pregnant for those two luxuries that completely disappear AFTER the little one arrives...sleep and food...sheesh

Chewy trail mix bars from Nature Valley saved my hungry bum last time. They were about the only thing I got to eat trying to take care of two little ones.

yep...I carried bananas with me everywhere and there were goldfish crackers that I had around all the time for my oldest...without those, I would have likely starved while trying to get both of them watched

I can't imagine how starved I'm going to be this time around. I already putting together a plan on how to handle it all better this time.

*blink*

I really hope you two are kidding. I never went through any of that, with either kid, and I was back to work 6 weeks after each of them.

Wow.

My oldest had a bit of a hard time adjusting to having a sibling. I'm glad she's older now.

You all make me kind of glad I only have the one to watch over

:D

you're also making me hungry for granola bars and/or banana muffins.

Which i need to make sometime soon. The muffins, that is, not the granola.

They're always making me glad mine are grown and out of the house.

And granola doesn't sound too bad. Good thing I already have some.

I have a couple of recipes in my Google Reader that I want to try for some homemade granola. I love granola. Mmmmmmm.

And muffins. Muffins are always good.

My housemate is making chicken tetrazani (however it's spelled) for dinner. We don't make muffins, I'm afraid.

Sorry everyone's having a crappy day.

I'm having my Monday today...it's the 13th. (At least it isn't Friday the 13th.) Ruined a perfectly good tire by running over a nice big bolt and had to change it. Changing tires is never a fun exercise. :D

Do you know how many people can't do that?

I'm one of them.

Well, come on over. I can give you lessons. LOL You find you can change one...when you have to. It just takes a lot longer. :)
