OK, I just checked my reppies and am totally confused. I just got two reppies, which was nice, but the thread name was "N/A"

I had this happen once when I was repped off of posts that had been deleted by a mod. It wasn't anything I was doing, I swear. Which may be why I got to keep the reppies.

I know if you delete the post yourself, it usually takes the reppies with it for that post, at least that's the way it used to be. I haven't put that to the test or anything.

As threads don't usually get deleted, just locked, reppies from locked threads don't seem to show up as N/A, so my guess is somewhere your post got chucked for some reason.

Knowing you, I doubt it was anything you did. Might even be just a glitch in the system.

Decaf is *worse* than empty. Decaf is the false promise of the gift of caffeine bestowed upon us by the sacred bean, masquerading as something that is nigh but indistinguishable from the true product of the sacred bean.

I think Twitter is a waste of time. So that's why I don't have one. Why should random people across the internet know everything I do in a single day?

Like any tool, it depends on how you use it. If all you're going to post is *everything* - i.e. all the insignificant trivialities that fill your day - then clearly, no, it's no much use.

On the other hand it is a social networking tool, among other things. And you can regulate who sees it, just like you do with facebook, myspace, or any other such media.

Or don't you have any of those, either?

:D

No...

No blog, either? :)

Or posts in the "What are you doing now? thread? :D

And even if the answer to those is another "no," I'm going to point out that it doesn't change the point of my response. They are tools to be used. How you use them largely determines how useful they are, but that's also bounded by what your goals are for using them.

I mostly use it to help keep track of my word counts, but also to follow a couple of agents and other writers. To which end, for me, it's quite useful.

shhh, Boston. The girl's being reasonable.

I don't don't do any of those things either. ;)

That may be. But the implication in the post seemed to be both disparaging of those of us who do (and I'm a recent convert only when it comes to Twitter, and Facebook is largely for family) and establishing herself on a pedestal for not condescending to use it alongside the common rabble.

I take issues with over-broad statements under any context, but especially those with a "I'm better than that" tone to them.

The blanket statement was "Twitter is a waste of time." Not, "a waste of time for me" but just the generalized statement. Ergo, the implication was we're all wasting our time using it. Now, considering I spend about two minutes a day, tops, on it, I hardly think that constitutes wasting those two minutes. Especially when I make good use of it.

Am I arguing semantics? Possibly. Doubtful, but possible. We're writers, we need to be careful with out words. And if the intent was simply to convey "I don't understand all the fuss" or, as I said above, "Twitter would be a waste of time for me" then it should have been better phrased.

I find outlining to be a waste of time for me in terms of the creative process, and I may kid around with some of the people I know who do outline, but I would never belittle them for it, or imply that they are wasting their time in doing so, so long as it works for them in helping them with their goals.

The blanket statement was "Twitter is a waste of time." Not, "a waste of time for me" but just the generalized statement.

I guess I'm of a mindset that everything that anyone posts comes with the automatic inclusion of "in my opinion" or "in my experience", so it doesn't need to be said, which infers that it's what they've found to be true for them. It's one of them web-etiquette things that got pounded into me when I first starting with the GEnie boards back in the 80's.

YMMV.

We have plenty of lakes, so lack of water isn't a problem. I'm with Bos, the ocean was a bit much.

Here in the summer, you can stand at the edge of oh, say 100 acres of ripe wheat. The heads are bowed, ripe for harvest. Wind, hardly ever in short supply, ripples across the field until it mimics waves on the ocean. The heads rustle together and sound quite similar to what I remember from Galveston.

Maybe that's why the Navy has so many recruits from the mid-west. We're used to broad horizons and the sounds of the ocean.

DeleyanLee
03-17-2010, 05:16 AM
Paranormal? What kind of paranormal? :D

I'm slogging through a Fantasy. Some people say it's "epic" but I haven't a clue. I'm about 50K in and am once again in the grips of the great "I'll never finish a book again" self-doubt syndrome. The fact I actually got words last night is hopeful that it's not dead yet. Gasping, but not dead.

DeleyanLee

Sinus? That's been killing me more days than not lately. I grok.

I'm just in that traditional "it's the week after time change and I can't get enough sleep" stage. Didn't help that I couldn't get my nap on the bus this morning 'cause the driver was constantly yakking and laughing with a bunch of her cronies that don't normally ride our route. Made me feel like I was stuck in the "Pickalittle-talkalittle" skit from "The Music Man" for two hours.

tjwriter
03-17-2010, 06:47 PM

DeleyanLee
03-17-2010, 06:49 PM
As gross as it is, have you tried a neti pot? Safe for use while pregnant and, from what I've heard, EXTREMELY effective in cleaning out the sinuses.

I'm so sick of this on-again-off-again sinus stuff, I've been seriously considering one.

tjwriter
03-17-2010, 07:08 PM
I've used one, but there's something weird with my right ear and my sinuses, so I end up hurting some. I think I may need to go see an ENT specialist.

In other news, I just felt the first distinctive baby kick! This one is going to aim for the bladder, just like the others.

DeleyanLee
03-17-2010, 07:10 PM
Maybe the first one painted a target on it.

I'd actually take a bladder kicker over what my son used to do (pantyliners are cheap). He liked to STRETCH and push his feet out so far that I could count his toes through my skin.

tjwriter
03-17-2010, 07:17 PM
The first one, you could watch her on the ultrasounds bounce up and down on my bladder like a trampoline from the time she was a little bigger than a blob. She nailed it constantly.

The second was less, but still got the bladder a lot. When she was bigger, she'd press out from butt to knee with one side of her body. I could just rub my hand along my upper stomach and know that she was still head down.

That must have been crazy to count toes. None of the kiddos did that to me. Though I managed to wedge a foot under my mom's ribs that my dad had to help her physically move the foot out. I was an angel from the uterus. ;)

Bloody Hell, the guy thinks. If I say I'm Green, he's bound to be Orange. If I say I'm Orange, he's bound to be Green....

"I'm a Jew! I'm a Jew!" he cries out.

"And I'm the luckiest damned Arab in all of Belfast."

Totally not PC, but you were warned.

I should know this.... I really should....

Aye, that you should, you should indeed.

Del, you do know that green and orange clash terribly?

That would depend on the shade of both, now wouldn't it? ;)

I don't know why that was hilarious, but it was.

And yes, I suppose it depends on the shade.

I really think that the Atlanta Braves need to ditch these stupid green hats. It would make sense if they matched their outfits, but it looks ridiculous! And they're not getting very lucky -- they're losin 1-0. :(

Well, that is the Luck of the Irish.

Just sayin'

I lose faith in my team far too easily.

it's too early for baseball. Besides, pre-season doesn't count for much, anyway.

Me too. My dad's side was Scottish/Irish..and Japanese.

Like that Starburst commercial with the Korean guy playing the bagpipes?

:D

Ah, right. I saw that. It was terribly cute.

Sad thing is, it took a long time for me to realize they weren't Scottish. *sigh*

Happy St. Pat's!

Hubs made corned beef and potatoes for dinner - he's working tonight, so made dinner for lunch.

My kids are Irish from hub's mother's side - her mother came over on the Ariana from Ireland when she was a teenager - and Scottish/Dutch/Welsh from hub's dad's side - last name goes back to the Vikings and reportedly means "I Dare."

When we were kids, my Grandmother insisted we wear red on St. Pat's Day.

Why red?

Cool beans! Are you thinking of it as Fantasy or Paranormal Romance? (I default to thinking of "paranormal" as the subgenre of Romance, I admit.)

It involves lots of sex. I'd call it Fantasy.

Why red?

I honestly have no idea.

No. I just remember her saying "You should be wearing red" one St. Patrick's day when she saw I was wearing green.

As my hair is red, can't say that it was for aesthetics.

Oh. No, red and red hair are usually not a good combination. Sorry, I was trying to be a smart#ss, as usual. :D

Ahh... Yeah, I have the same problem. A lot of my smart arse comments fall flat. Unless people know me. :D

Yeah.

And even then sometimes...

I went on a spree the other day, posting Wizard of Oz quotes all over the place.

There were debates as to whether I was high or merely tipsy.
