Phew. Thought it was me. And my big mouth. (Just kidding!)
Naw. :) What happens when a thread hits right around 20K posts is that it starts to suck up a LOT more of the resources both on our server and on the member's machine. Image-heavy threads, especially. The indexing script gets to a point where it bogs down and can choke -- so the threads stop getting indexed, too.

There are bigger boards than us, in terms of number of threads and number of users -- but that thing we do here, with threads that go on for thousands of pages, and tens of thousands of posts, year after year? That's actually fairly unusual BB behavior. I'm thinking I gotta write a paper about it, or something.

So people on slower connections start having a hard time loading that thread, and then shortly thereafter, the whole ROOM can get difficult for some members to open. NEPAT got unstable and nearly collapsed the Bewares forum, a couple of years ago, that way.

So it's just house-keeping. Go right on chatting. :)

It is an interesting phenomenon, Mac, that so many threads here go on for thousands of posts. I've been a member of other BBs and have never seen anything like it.

I refer to them as "home" threads. Part of a community, we have access to all areas of the community, but we stick to our own neighborhoods a lot.

If you do write a paper on it, I'd love to read it. :)

Huh. I've never spent a great deal of time on boards before. (Don't look at me like that. It's true.) So I had no idea this was freakish behavior.

Of course I shouldn't be surprised. So much of my behavior is. :D

I have a sudden hankering for carrot cake with cream cheese icing.

*wonders where the nearest enabler bakery is*

At last, OFFICIALLY in the middle of nowhere. But
I made apple cake this morning, for my friends (Yes! Real friends!) who are coming round for coffee.

While I was in the shower a sneaky little midget pushed a chair up to the bench and dug little monkey handfuls out of it.

Grrr...

I made pumpkin cake, but I have a sudden craving for carrot.

Apple cake sounds awesome. Recipe?

Incidentally, I've compared my male MC to Wesley. Not in a good way. I had to make him less the satirical hero, but there's still traces.

I read The Princess Bride this summer, but I haven't seen the movie for a long time. My older sister loves the movie but hasn't read the book, so we're probably going to watch it together some time.

"Besides, I'd probably kill your friend."
"Oh, well, he is already dead."

Classic.

And yes, less satirical. No blindly chasing after the love of your life when she's a cranky, whiny, worthless sod. Ofc, that made me aware my MC was bordering on Buttercup territory, lol.

Dire.

Soon it will be with betas and I can stop fretting for awhile and write other stuff.
