My favorite days varies by the week, I'm afraid. Of course, I often don't know what day is my favorite until after I've lived it. LOL!

So, is everyone out celebrating Mickey Mouse's birthday today?

He looks pretty good for 81, don't he?

Cella

I'm celebrating Del's bday....I am inclined to think you're younger than 81....

It's OK. I'm used to sharing my cake with Mickey. But it's OK. He's got a little mouth and doesn't eat that much. It's Pluto stealing stuff when we're not looking we've got to watch out for. :D

slcboston

I'm perfectly capable of holding two contradictory opinions...

Besides. It's cheesecake. :D

Cella

There will be cheesecake w/strawberries for you here on Wednesday. :D

Will that do?

I think I speak for Del when i say, as a fellow lover of cheescake, that it's close, but not quite good enough. :D

Oh, and I think I'll sprinkle some reps around the place.

I was lying in bed last night, as you do, and my mind was wandering, as it does, and a story idea popped into my head, as they do, but I didn't jump out of bed to write it, as I tend not to. I actually creeped myself out at the time with it, too. It seemed perfect. Now, in the (admittedly grey) light of (a sadly cloudy) day, it just seems a lot less creepy and a bit more silly.

So I guess it's lucky I didn't leap out of bed, or I'd be kicking myself for having deprived myself of sleep for that.

DeleyanLee
11-19-2009, 06:37 PM
{{Cella}} Hope you feel better!

The boss is out of the office today, so I'm having a BAD attack of the "don't wanna do anything"s. However, I was a putz and left my USB drive at home, so I don't have my MIP with me to work on, so outside of haunting AW, I really can't avoid doing money work.

But one of my coworkers wasn't here yesterday, so I'm getting taken out for lunch for my b-day, so that's pretty good.

Really wish I could untangle what I'm writing so I didn't feel like part of my head was a pile of steel-wool, y'know?

Cella
11-19-2009, 06:41 PM
Sorry Del.....

you'll have a happy birthday lunch, thought, right?

DeleyanLee
11-19-2009, 06:43 PM
Most probably. We go to lunch fairly often, but this time it's not dutch. LOL!

Oh, and another coworker just stopped by and brought me a thing of daisies and a dozen oatmeal raisin cookies. I'm starting to feel like a heel for looking for another job.

Cella
11-19-2009, 07:00 PM

DeleyanLee
11-19-2009, 07:02 PM
Yeah, I know. It's the people I always adore, but many of the other things are starting to tell on me.

I really should get some money work done. If only to make my desk look different than when the boss left.

Morning.

I am the youngest of five kids and when we would go on a road trip, we'd start getting loud and annoying (as kids do) and my mom would say, "You're getting car sick." And we'd believe her. We thought she could tell we were sick before we even felt it. Then she'd give us medicine so we'd all sleep. Crafty, very crafty. :D

Having only two kids, I have never had to drug them to get them to sleep, at home or in the car, but now that they are getting to the pre-teen stage, I'm seriously considering it. They were so well behaved as toddlers. NOW they are getting obnoxious. :D Oh, and we've got a four hour road trip ahead of us today to go to my daughter's soccer tournament in Memphis. Joy.

Cella

"You're getting car sick...." Mommy knows best, eh?!

I'd like to point out that he is also actually sick....

now for me? Before I was a mom I'd take Tylenol PM or cough meds to help me sleep, but now--especially if I'm alone-- I want to be able to know what's going on should there be a loud noise or, God forbid, a break-in.

Hope the game goes well. Really don't give her anything before a game...lol :D

StoryG27

Oh, I can drug the girl, her game is first thing tomorrow morning. :D

I'm actually paranoid about medicines. For me, for my kids. Always have been. I give them meds only when I HAVE to. I really can't give my son much, even when he is sick because he has a kidney disease and his system can't handle many of the OTC meds out there. He used to have to take fourteen prescription pills a day. Now he just takes one pill a day. I can't wait until he can get off that, but it's taken us four years to get to this point, so I imagine he'll be on it for a little while longer.

{{Storygirl}} on the kidney condition. I was just diagnosed with it, so I totally understand what you're going through, well, in a way. So good to hear he's down to one pill.

I remember one Easter when we were heading up to my grandmothers (5 hr drive) and all four of us girls were at each other's throats even before we piled into the car. Dad sat us all down on the couch and said, "The ONLY words I want to hear out of any of your mouths all weekend is 'I love my stinking sister.' Now say it." And he had us repeat it about eleventy million times so it became kinda sing-songy.

And all through the weekend, any time any of us would start to snap at another, Dad would give us a look and point at us and we--all of us, not just the ones involved--would chorus "I love my stinking sister."

It's become a family joke that still lives to this day. My dad gives us a look, and we'll still chorus, 35 years later.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Is it too intrusive to ask what you were diagnosed with? My son has a rare kidney disease, one of the few that have nothing to do with diabetes, and if it is going to strike, usually strikes in childhood. He's faring well though. By this point, they told us he'd be in end stage renal faliure and praying for a transplant. He's not. He's doing great, plays every sport imaginable and is a strong and healthy as ever.

LOL! That is classic! My mom used to get really mad at us when one of us would say to the other, "You're pissing me off." or "I'm pissed off." She hated that word. So she made us replace it with "tinkle." We'd be ready to rip the other's heart out and say, "I'm so tinkled off at you right now." And somehow, we always started giggling. We still say tinkle when we're mad at each other.

I had one friend whose parents made them sing to fight or argue with each other. They could say whatever they wanted, as long as they sang it. I was a bit flabbergasted not knowing this rule when she and her older brother got in a fight when I was there and they started singing at each other. After I got over the initial shock, I was laughing so hard, they both started laughing too.

We had to go through this with my nine year old niece three years ago who, at the time, was the same age as my daughter and more like a sister to my kids. From diagnosis to death was nine months, so we had some time to prepare, but you always hope. It's not easy, that's for sure. We're still not over it, don't know if we ever will be. Death is a really sucky part of life. I hope this draws you all closer and you and yours will be in my thoughts.

I'm glad she lived long enough to see her youngest grandchild and I'm thankful things are civil enough with my ex at the moment to communicate. It hasn't always been that way. This is going to be the second funeral in six months for the kids. Hopefully next year is going to be better. And in some ways, this has been easier than if she died in a car accident or something. Some of the grief is already been lived through. Anyway, I better change the subject. They don't know yet, and they are due home soon.

I like to make apple cider in the crock pot with cinnamon sticks and orange slices....and cloves, I think....

Mmmmm.....

OK, try this little recipe for wassail on for size:

Apple cider
Cranberry juice (straight, not a mix--about 1/2 as much as the cider)
2-3 cinnamon sticks
double-dash ground cloves
a sprinkle of whole allspice
a dash of nutmeg
orange slices
a good splash of sugar or honey

When I mull this in a pot, I peel a whole orange and let the kids stud the orange with whole cloves instead of putting the ground cloves in. The kids LOVE doing this while I stir the sugar/honey to melt it in.

Simmer for hours, stirring occasionally. Makes the whole house smell like Yuletide

For an adult party, you can add rum to individual mugs. ;)

Yeah, yeah, I know the old song and dance about smell being 90% of taste. Been hearing that for years. Doesn't change the sad fact of my life that my taste experience is 95% texture and the vast majority of the 5% remaining, which I can taste, make me violently ill. *shrug*

It's just the idea of eating anything on the outside of citrus is gross and I can see it suspended in goo on my toast/muffin, so I don't want to put it in my mouth. (Much like tomato soup--the visual unappeal is so great, I can't eat it.) There's pretty much no difference between that and jelly.

 Yet another way I'm weird, I know.

Infamous Black Friday is looming here in the US -- just about every store opens their doors at the crack of O'dark:30 / dawn and offers discounts on select merchandise.

My daughter's last day at Toys R Us is Black Friday. She starts at 4AM 'til noon.

I think it's funny 'cause she was always so excited to go "expedition shopping" with my sisters on Black Friday (I'm not kidding--they'd sit there after dinner and combine shopping lists, plot out who was hitting what stores, confirmed itineraries, who was driving, who was standing in line, swapped money around--I'm sure they could run a full presidential campaign with all the stragedy they plotted). Now she's on the other side of the register and has a totally different experience of the day.

If I didn't have to go pick her up, I wouldn't be within 10 miles of a store on Friday.

Happy Monday, peoples!

I love holiday shopping---before the holidays get here. most years I have everything done before Thanksgiving but not this year.

Del, I bet you're daughter will never be the same, lol. ....you're picking her up. Does this mean you have to get up and take her in for her 4am shift, too? Ugh... That place will be a zoo!

Everyone's getting homemade chocolate dipped graham crackers and soup mix in a jar (the adults anyway...)
