Does anyone have memories of a Southern California restaurant chain called The Chili Bowl? All of the restaurant buildings were shaped like a bowl of chili. My second question: does anyone know the approximate year when the Alhambra location - on Valley Boulevard - went out of business? The building is still there, but now, it's home to a Chinese restaurant. All of my Google searches are bringing up pages of totally irrelevant information.

Thanks in advance!

This doesn't give an exact date, but it alludes to the restaurants being phased out after WWII started: http://www.roadsidepeek.com/archit/vernac/index2.htm

Just scroll down and look for the photos of the place.

It appears to be called "programmatic architecture." You might try hitting the library for it and see what you can find. It might have a historical photo with a specific date in it.
