I've just started submitting my short fiction for publication! Yay! Getting to the point where I want to see my fiction published has been a long and arduous mental journey for me.

My first submission was to Glimmer Train, which I know is aiming high. Now I've got another story that I need to find a submission-home for.

Would you suggest trying Glimmer Train again, which is, from what I understand, one of the best publishers of literary/mainstream fiction? Then, when I get word that they can't use it, try No. 2 on my wishlist? Or do I peruse my Writers Market for a journal that might be a little more accessible right off the bat?

Start high

Why not start at the top? It costs only a bit of time and sometimes a bit of posatge, and the only posible way to know whether or not the big magazines want your fiction is to let them look at it.

And wouldn't you just hate selling a story to a tiny magazine when it might have been bought by a large magazine?
