Hi there everyone,

Is there another way of saying "The Floor is Open." I've looked in Wikipedia, Answers.com, Ask.com, Thesaurus, Dictionary, Reference and got a host of sites offering open floor plans or they didn't have an answer.

Does anyone know?

Notwithstanding the internal capital letters:

Anyone may speak.

I (We) will listen to others at this time.

Comments from the audience are now entertained.

Is it a council meeting or something like that?

If so there's usually a 'Call to the Public' on the Agenda.

Our Mayor usually says something like, "This is a Public Hearing, is there anyone who'd like to speak on the matter?"

If it's for meetings, at our local union meetings the usual form is "Any new business?" for new matters, and "Any discussion?" for comments on matters already underway.

"We're now open to questions" ? It really depends on the specific situation you're describiing.

We used to say, "It's time to open the floor to members of the audience (or members of the public)."

I direct television broadcasts for half a dozen civic meetings. "Public Comments" is usually the way the item is placed in the agenda. Different Mayors or Chairs have different styles - but usually they'll say something like. "At this time, we will open the discussion to the public." or "Is there anyone from the public who would like to speak on this matter?" People are then allowed to speak for a limited time (3 mins). When everyone has their say, then the Chair will "Close public comments, and return the discussion to the Council/Board/Forum" whatever.
