Okay, so, I've been playing around with the beta for this.
My reactions?
Well...its City of Heroes.
But more so.
So, if you liked COH, you'll like Champions Online. And as COH is the ONLY mmo I ever played for more than 20 days (Age of Conan does not count as I still say that it was a fantastic single player game with a shitty MMO strapped to the side like some kind of cancerous growth).
Anywho, the first thing that I noticed about CO is that...well...my head exploded from the sheer CHOICE offered you.
There are enough heroic arctypes and heroic powers that you can mix and match and create any kind of hero you want.
Cybernetic wrist arms combined with black magic? Sure!
Power armored angel? Why not!?
Superman, except he uses guns cause he's not a pussy now? OF COURSE!
And this is just the two STARTING powers you select. Once you grab those and compete a rather involved tutorial, you get to select travel powers, buff powers, attack powers...all sorts of powers!
And, of course, you can make any kind of physical apperance.
So, what did I do?
Well, I actually made 6 characters before finally finding one I liked.
Lets just follow the course of the one I liked.
Now, I actually like making physical appearences first, then trying to decide what powers fit that than the other way around, so I started off focusing on what my character looked like.
And, because I continue to have a MASSIVE hardon for Planescape Torment, I decided to make my character look as similar to Annah as possible. And yes, you CAN have a rat-tail! Woohoo!
Anywho, once I had my Annah character made, I decided to make it slightly less of a rip off by making her right arm cybernetic. And lo, Cyber-Demon was born!
I decided for a custom power set (Rather than selecting an archtype). My first two powers were SONIC ARROW and GRIM REAPER'S BLOW!
Basically, I can use a sword to slice and dice...or shoot a sonic arrow from my amazing super bow!
Sweet.
I played through the tutorial and leveled up a few times (And let me say, leveling up looks awesome. Its like the flash of light from WOW, except it looks a BIT more like the Quickening from Highlander, sans windows and cars exploding)
OH AND DID I MENTION YOU CAN THROW CARS AT BADGUYS?!
Yeah.
You can.
Cars, rubble...heck, you can beat the shit out of people with streetlamps.
Mmm
And there are capes.
Anywho, the best things about CO is that it realized that people don't want to wait till they get to level 20 (or whatever level it required to get travel powers) to get travel powers!
So, right off the bat, you can grab a travel power and they are AWESOME.
Jetpacks, jetboots, superjump, acrobatics, superspeed, teleportation, tunneling, flight, WEBSLINGING, hovering disks...
Ungh.
This game just BEGS for you to make a bunch of characters to try out all of the awesome stuff that you can't get with just one character.
Did I mention that you can throw cars at people?
So, I might actually get a job so I can pay for a monthy subscription for this sucker!
Maybe!
Perhapse!
POSSIBLY!
So, if you liked COH, get CO.
Cause its COH but bigger, better, more fun, and with more awesome.
Also, did I mention that you can be throw cars at bad guys?
