I read Simmons from semi-regularly. Sometimes I find him to be on point, other times I think he's getting lazy and rehashing the same lame jokes and movie references over and over again. Sometimes his homerism is sort of endearing and other times it gets so much in the way of his integrity that I swear I'll never read him again.
But this article is just plain good. It's one of the best I think I've ever read from him. No paragraph-long parenthetical digressions. No Rocky IV references. Just an interesting, funny, entertaining, informative and engaging article about watching a soccer match in Mexico City, the state of U.S. soccer and how Jozy Altidore (kid's a beast in the making) could impact the future of the sport here.
