This is my most persistent problem in freelancing. Recently I wrote 18 articles for an employer, and although I invoiced them as per our verbal agreement, they have so far refused to pay. There's $1400 involved here. All I get from them is excuses, or they just ignore my emails, don't answer my phone calls or voice messages, etc. I'm sure others have dealt with this problem - what did you do, and was it successful?

Thanks for any help.

Could you make a BBB complaint against them? Sometimes businesses respond to their requests. But with a verbal agreement you are not in a strong position.

In the future, I'd suggest getting a signed agreement from the other party or have them send an email agreement.

You'll be in a much better position to support your case and scam artists like that will think twice before assigning work.

You can always try Small Claims court to recover some of your money, but it will be an uphill battle without a written fee agreement.

Good luck to you.
